Agenda Request
To: Board of Commissioners
Philip Morley, County Administrator
From: Monte Reinders, Public Works Director
Agenda Date: August 21, 2017
Subject: Request for Solid Waste Advisory Committee member re-
appointment
Statement of Issue:
Public Works seeks the re -appointment of Chris Giraldes to the Solid Waste Advisory
Committee (SWAC). Chris represents Olympic Disposal and DM Disposal, both Waste
Connections companies. A letter of interest from Mr. Giraldes is attached.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's and Con's:
Local Waste Connections companies (Murrey's Olympic Disposal and DM Disposal)
serve functions that are critical to the collection and routing of trash and recyclables
from Jefferson County to sanitary disposal and secondary markets. It is important that
the company is informed of local solid waste issues and has the ability to provide
input as the SWAC considers any program changes. Mr. Giraldes presently serves as
Vice Chair to the SWAC.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis:
Local SWAC is mandated by RCW 70.95.165(3) and costs associated with SWAC
functions, are budgeted for in the 2017 Solid Waste Budget.
