HomeMy WebLinkAbout082117_ca05Department of Public Works O Consent Agenda Page 1 of 2 Jefferson County Board of Commissioners Agenda Request To: Board of Commissioners Philip Morley, County Administrator From: Monte Reinders, Public Works Director Agenda Date: August 21, 2017 Subject: Request for Solid Waste Advisory Committee member re- appointment Statement of Issue: Public Works seeks the re -appointment of Chris Giraldes to the Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC). Chris represents Olympic Disposal and DM Disposal, both Waste Connections companies. A letter of interest from Mr. Giraldes is attached. Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's and Con's: Local Waste Connections companies (Murrey's Olympic Disposal and DM Disposal) serve functions that are critical to the collection and routing of trash and recyclables from Jefferson County to sanitary disposal and secondary markets. It is important that the company is informed of local solid waste issues and has the ability to provide input as the SWAC considers any program changes. Mr. Giraldes presently serves as Vice Chair to the SWAC. Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis: Local SWAC is mandated by RCW 70.95.165(3) and costs associated with SWAC functions, are budgeted for in the 2017 Solid Waste Budget.
