HomeMy WebLinkAboutCAC Agenda 05-16-2012 Agenda Climate Action Committee (CAC) Wednesday, May 16, 2012, 3:30 - 5:30 PM Cotton Building, 607 Water St. (Kitty-corner from City Hall in Pope Marine Park) Port Townsend, WA GOALS: Primarily orientation - Welcome new members to the CAC team. To understand what brings us together, what we are tasked to do, what is already being done. By the end of this meeting, we will have a sense of our strengths and weaknesses and thus the group will be prepared to move forward with action items at the next meeting. AGENDA 3:30 p.m. Call to Order 3:35 Introduction – Councilmember Deborah Stinson, Judy Surber 3:45 Approval of Agenda 3:50 Team Building Exercise Time to share your thoughts with other members: What would you say to someone who asked you why you cared enough to serve on the CAC? If you ran into someone at work or socially, what would you say? What legacy do you want to leave from serving on the CAC? 4:00 Background Councilmember Deb Stinson will provide an overview of local efforts from grass-roots activist – adopted goal – inventory and software – Climate Action Plan (CAP) Judy Surber will provide an overview of the CAP 4:10 Review of Binder and Work plan – Judy Surber Staff has compiled documents for the CAC with an eye toward the CAC mission. We will hit the highlights! 4:20 Public Comment 4:30 Government Leading by Example - Resource Management Plans (Brian Goldstein, RCM) In 2010, the City & County signed an interlocal agreement with three other local jurisdictions to fund a Shared Resource Conservation Manager (RCM) in Jefferson County. The RCM is tasked with making recommendations on reducing cost and resource use. The RCM provides guidelines to assist in reducing energy, water and solid waste related operating costs through optimization of building systems and occupant behavioral changes with the goal of reducing resource use by 10% over three years. Brian will report on Year 1 of RCM program for City and County (Nov 2010 through Oct 2011). 4:45 BREAK 4:55 Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats Strengths: characteristics of the CAC that give it an advantage over others Weaknesses (or Limitations): are characteristics that place the team at a disadvantage relative to others Opportunities: external chances to improve performance (e.g. make greater profits) in the environment Threats: external elements in the environment that could cause trouble for the business or project 5:15 Meeting Coordination - Set Objectives for Next Meeting How long should we meet, when? The Climate Action Committee has been meeting quarterly, on the third Wednesday of the month. However, with several new members coming on board, we will revisit the schedule - Please bring your calendars.
