SUBJECT: Online Posting of the 2018 County Administrator's Recommended Budget
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
As called for in Jefferson County's annual budget calendar and in the interest of informing the public the
County Administrator's Recommended 2018 County Budget will be available on the county web site by
close of business November 20, 2017. The recommended budget will be considered by the Jefferson
County Board of County Commissioners, after hearing from the public at a Public Hearing on December
4, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the Commissioners' Chambers.
After their deliberations, it is anticipated that the Commissioners may adopt their Final 2018 County
Budget the following week, at their December 11 meeting.
ANALYSIS:
The recommended budget for 2018 is similar to recommended budgets in previous years in that it reflects
the same slow growth in revenues and continued increased costs for providing services to our citizens. As
has been the county's past practice, this recommended budget is fiscally responsible and sustainable
under existing economic conditions.
Beginning on November 20, the Recommended 2018 County Budget can be viewed on the County web
site: www.co.jefferson.wa.us. The public is invited to offer written or oral testimony about the
Recommended 2018 County Budget. Oral testimony will be accepted at the December 4' Public
Hearing. Written testimony may be submitted any time before the Hearing, and new submittals are
welcome until the end of the Public Hearing.
At the beginning of the Public Hearing on December 4, county staff will give an overview of the budget,
and describe the financial and economic conditions that shape it.
The County Commissioners will deliberate on the Recommended Budget and the public's oral and
written testimony, before adopting a Final 2018 County Budget after the Public Hearing, at a subsequent
meeting.
RECOMMENDATION:
Allow staff to post the County Administrator's Recommended 2018 County Budget on November 20, and
hold a Public Hearing on Dec. 4.
