Approval of Agenda – Mike Evans/Lois Barnett/All II. Mike Evans introduced his daughter, Ashley III. Approval of the February, 2013 minutes- Lois Barnett/Artis/ All IV. Public Comments/From the Floor/Announcements - None V. Provider Reports Prevention Julia Chimacum as the new PRI Site The new Chimacum Prevention Coalition will be having its next meeting. Specifics are: When: Wednesday, March 12, 2014, 3:00 to 5:00 pm Where: Chimacum High School Library What: Continuing to mine Chimacum data to prioritize risk and protective factors. Friends of Rich Finn Lois Barnett, Anne Dean and Kelly Matlock have planned a series of radio conversations with KPTZ about alcohol and drug use and abuse issues. Kelly Matlock is waiting to hear back from the University of Washington’s Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute (ADAI) to follow up with meetings with Larry Stein with KPTZ. Switch from Life Skills Training to Second Step. Maintaining Protecting You / Protecting Me in the PTSD (same as last month) Blue Heron Middle School will be changing the prevention curriculum presented to all middle school students in the 2013 – 2014 school year from Life Skills Training to Second Steps. Second Step is also an evidence-based curriculum. It is our understanding that they will be maintaining Protecting You/ Protecting Me in the elementary school and for the 5th grade class (Please note that due to a variety of issues, the PY/PM curriculum has never been given to the 4th grade class.) Anne Dean is continuing to work with Diane Lashinsky, the Principal at Blue Heron Middle School, on community members assisting in the facilitation of these classes. 2 Approve May 12, 2014 Public Health Julia The next Board of Health meeting will be Thursday, March 20, 2014, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. County Drug & Alcohol Coordinator Ford Ford reported that both Family Therapeutic Court and Mental health Court are going well. Believe in Recovery Vince Believe in Recovery (BIR) had a Division of Behavioral Health & Recovery (DBHR) audit on March 4, 2014 that went well. BIR currently has 40 clients with most of them being in monthly monitoring. Vince reported he does have a contract with Lifewise to provide chemical dependency treatment. Mental Health Sam Sam reported Jefferson Mental Health (JMH) continues to scramble to provide services.JMH has seen a significant increase in the number of people seeking mental health services. Sam reported 6 intakes per week for new clients and JMH currently cannot meet the demand for services. Sam stated that getting new staff is a long process and they are trying to bring new people onboard. JHM is currently serving over 1600 people with 18% of school age youth and 1 in 20 people in Jefferson County being served by JMH. Youth Report Mike The Youth/Public Safety Cadet program is about to officially start. There was a visit to the Kitsap County Cadet program and members were very impressed. Goal of the Cadet programs are to keep youth engaged. Working with the Sherriff's Department and Sports Programs to develop a Triple A program ( Academics, Arts and Athletics). VI. Old Business  Jail Relapse Prevention program Fran Fran reported there continues to be 10-13 participants in the Jail Relapse Prevention program and it is going well.  Drug Take Back totals Fran Fran reported the Sheriff’s Department took in a total 54 lbs of medications in February.  Volunteer Opportunities for Youth Garin No Report  Friends of Rich Finn Kelly/Lois See Kelly's Prevention Report.  King County Take Back Ordinance John No Report 3 Approve May 12, 2014  Recovery Community Recruitment Ford Ford continues to work on recruiting members from the recovery community to seek a position on the SAAB. Conflicts with work schedules and the time of the SAAB meetings are making it difficult to find individuals that are able to commit. Ford will continue to get the word out. VII. New Business Artis took a moment to voice his perspective on how important he feels it is to get the message about substance abuse out through subtle education and not in a militant or guilt ridden manner. Fran requested this topic be tabled until the next meeting for further discussion.
