Friends of Rich Finn (same as last month)
There is movement again in terms of the series of radio conversations we had planned
last year. The UW Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute (ADAI) has guaranteed me that they
will have someone who will be interviewed over the phone for the 2nd and 3rd programs.
Larry Stein (KPTZ), Lois Barnett and Kelly Matlock are working out the details. We are
hoping that SAAB members will be willing to participate in the second conversation.
Also, Lois is planning with Marc Weinblatt another Poetic Justice Theatre Ensemble
event, and Lois and Kelly will be asking SAAB members who previously volunteered to
be a part of a “resource fair” after the event if they are still willing to do this.

Informational - No quorum April 8, 2014
The original plan is to have the following topics:
Interview with Friends of Rich Finn (with a local voice aware of local resources)
Different approaches/modalities for recovery and their efficacy - Treatment providers and
someone from ADAI (UW can be interviewed as an impartial “authority” as a part of a
discussion.)
Impact of alcohol and marijuana on the developing teenage brain (I think this should
mostly like need to be just the UW person).
SAAB Members will be notified as more develops.

April 8, 2014 YESTERDAY
Space is still available for the Drug Free Action Alliance Webinar: Scare Tactics.
We hear all the time that “scare tactics don’t work.” But rarely is it explained WHY they
don’t work.
Join us as we take a closer look at the research and discuss four key reasons scare
tactics are ineffective, and potentially harmful. Schools, coalitions, families, and anyone
else interested in effective evidence-based drug prevention, will find this webinar to be
invaluable to their work.

Work, visit https://www.drugfreeactionalliance.org/scare-tactics.

Families personally impacted by the consequences of substance abuse or misuse have
found a collective voice to issue a public outcry and gain support in their community. The
G.A.P. Network of family engagement groups seeks to end the crisis of substance abuse,
specifically prescription drug and opiate addiction in all communities.
The session will examine the efforts underway by these groups, which provide support to
individuals and families affected by addiction. The G.A.P. Network and its partners,
advocate for policy changes that can change environmental conditions that encourage
drug use and mobilizing communities to affect their own change.
