Provider Reports Prevention Kelly CHIMACUM PREVENTION COALITION (CPC) MEETING The Chimacum Prevention Coalition will be having its next meeting tomorrow. Specifics are: When: Wednesday, July 9, 2014 1:00 to 2:00 pm Where: Jefferson County Public Library, Shold Conference Room What: Discussion about CPC’s upcoming Social Norms Campaign, presenters for the CPC Public Awareness Campaign and more information about the upcoming 4-H and CPC sponsored Strengthening Families parenting classes. Please note the location and time change for the July and August meetings. ALL SAAB MEMBERS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. CPC STRATEGIC PLAN The Chimacum Prevention Coalition’s Strategic Plan has been approved by the Division of Behavioral Health & Recovery (DBHR). A copy of the Executive Summary is attached. CPC is moving forward on implementation of the plan. 2 Approved August 12, 2014 DRUG TAKE BACK (same as last month) CPC is exploring the possibility of being involved with the Drug Take Back program with the Jeff. Co. Sheriff’s Department. At this point no plans have been made. Julia Danskin and Kelly Matlock will keep SAAB posted as to future developments. YOUTH MARIJUANA PREVENTION RESOURCES  Youth Marijuana Prevention Video This 16 minute video was made by the Mercer Island Youth and Family Services, the Mercer Island Communities That Care Coalition (CTC), and DBHR. CPC is working on bringing 2 of the speakers in the film to Chimacum for presentations. They are Dr. Leslie Walker, the Chief of the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Seattle Children’s Hospital (she first appears about 4:30 minutes into the video) and Dr. Steve Freng, the Prevention / Treatment Manager for the NW High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, HIDTA (he appears 8:10 minutes into the video). Another speaker on the video, Jerry Blackburn, presented at a November 2007 Town Hall Meeting in Port Townsend on the “Neurological Impact of Alcohol and other Drugs on the Developing Teenage Brain.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=051fjuFcnaU  Governor Inslee’s Press Conference In June Governor Inslee announced measures that state agencies are taking to ensure public safety and to protect youth, in preparing for the opening of retail marijuana stores in July. News coverage of the press conference appeared in the Seattle Times.  DBHR Resources The Department of Social and Health Services – Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) has partnered with local and state agencies to reach parents, caregivers, and underage youth with information about the risks of underage marijuana use, and the new laws. The next Board of Health meeting is scheduled for July 17th, 2014. County Drug & Alcohol Coordinator Ford No Report Believe in Recovery Vince Vince reported his numbers are down. He also reported one of his clients had just completed their 2 year program. Mental Health Sam Sam reported Jefferson Mental Health (JMH) has received a large number of resumes for his position. Funding cuts and threats continue to be an ongoing issue. 11 -12% funding cuts anticipated. Sam stated the structure of our Regional Support Network (RSN) is difficult. Funding is currently based on population, not services provided. All in all JMH is recovering nicely. Relationship between Jefferson HealthCare and JMH has improved. JMH currently trying to hire a prescriber to prescribe patient medications. The University of Washington will be consulting with JMH once again. Additionally the University is starting a pain management program. Youth Report Mike None. VI. Old Business  Jail Relapse Prevention program Fran Fran reported the Jail RP program started up again on June 1st. Ken Brown and his wife, Linda Pedderson are facilitating the RP program. Steve Richmond informed Fran they are working on getting a report on the program completed. The report will be sent to Fran when completed.  Drug Take Back totals Fran Fran reported the Sheriff’s Department took in a total of 52 lbs in June.  Volunteer Opportunities for Youth Garin Conner reported Garin and Mike are working on restarting the Cadet program.  Recovery Community Recruitment Ford Teresa reported Ford is planning on having 2 members of the Recovery community attend the next SAAB meeting as potential candidates for positions on the board.  DEA Collections Rules Fran Fran reported the DEA has not released their revised collections rules.  Drug Free Workplace Policy Fran/John/Conner/Anne Research continues on Drug Free Workplace policies. 4 Approved August 12, 2014  Publish article with CPC Julia/Kelly Research continues on this project. Fran suggested contacting Lois Barnett about participating on this project. VII. New Business  Public Records Act Training Requirements (PRAT) Fran provided information on PRAT requirements. All SAAB members will need to participate in the training. John Austin will forward a link for online training to Teresa and Teresa will distribute the link to all SAAB members. Teresa will also make copies of completion certificates provided by Fran so members can have one when they complete the training.  Other The State Department of Health is planning on doing PSA on Marijuana in the near future.
