HomeMy WebLinkAbout201408_SAAB_Min1 Approved September 9th, 2014 JEFFERSON COUNTY SUBSTANCE ABUSE ADVISORY BOARD Tuesday Aug 12th, 2014 3:30 – 5:00 PM Jefferson County Courthouse Commissioners Chambers Basement Level Meeting Minutes Board Members Present: John Austin, Catharine Robinson, Mike Evans, Artis, Anne Dean Board Members Absent: Fran Joswick, Garin Williams, Conner Daily, Sam Markow, Lois Barnett, Staff Present: Teresa Wirth, Julia Danskin, Kelly Matlock, Vince Marquis Staff Absent: Ford Kessler Guests: Anthonie Cullen I. Approval of Agenda – John Austin/Anne Dean/All II. Introductions – Anthonie Cullen was introduced to the board members. He is a member of the Recovery Community interested in applying for one of the vacancies on the SAAB. III. Approval of the July, 2014 minutes - John Austin/Anne Dean/All IV. Public Comments/From the Floor/Announcements – Both Sam Markow and Lois Barnett have submitted resignation letters effective immediately. John Austin announced an Ordinance establishing a six month moratorium on accepting or processing applications for recreational marijuana businesses in certain land use zones has been adopted. A public hearing is proposed to be held on Monday, Oct 6, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Cotton Building, 607 Water Street, and Port Townsend. Anne Dean the 2nd annual Volunteer and Mentoring Fair will be held on Sept. 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. More information to follow. V. Provider Reports Prevention Kelly Chimacum Prevention Coalition Meeting The Chimacum Prevention Coalition will be having its next meeting tomorrow. Specifics are: When: Wednesday, August 13, 2014 1:00 to 2:00 pm Where: Jefferson County Public Library, Shold Conference Room What: Discussion about CPC’s upcoming Social Norms Campaign, Presenters for the CPC Public Awareness Campaign and more information about the upcoming 4-H and CPC sponsored Strengthening Families parenting classes. ALL SAAB MEMBERS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. CPC Strategic Plan (same as last month) The Chimacum Prevention Coalition’s Strategic Plan has been approved by DBHR. CPC is moving forward on implementation. 2 Approved September 9th, 2014 Attachments Agenda for the Chimacum Prevention Coalition 8-13-2014 meeting. Copy of the JCPH website “Substance / Tobacco Abuse Prevention” page “Learn About Preventing Youth Marijuana Use.” Public Health Julia Julia reported the next Board of Health meeting is scheduled for Aug. 21st, 2014. The next major Medical sign up is scheduled for Nov15 – Feb. 1, 2015. Julia also showed a video on Youth and Marijuana prevention to the members. . County Drug & Alcohol Coordinator Ford No Report Believe in Recovery Vince Vince reported the out-patient treatment center in Sequim, 4 – Directions Counseling, has closed. Mental Health No Report. Search for a replacement for Sam’s position at JMHS continues. Youth Report Mike Mike reported they are working on developing a program with Blue Herron Middle School. He also reported there could be some issues with this partnership due to staffing issues. VI. Old Business  Jail Relapse Prevention program Fran No Report.  Drug Take Back totals Fran No Report.  Volunteer Opportunities for Youth Garin No Report  Recovery Community Recruitment Ford Anthony Cullen was introduced as a potential recruitment from recovery community member  DEA Collections Rules Fran No forward movement. 3 Approved September 9th, 2014  Drug Free Workplace Policy Fran/John/Conner/Anne No formal meeting yet. Anne read some recent stories about implementing Drug Free Workplace policies since marijuana has been made legal. Research continues on Drug Free Workplace policies.  Publish article with CPC Julia/Kelly Kelly and Julia are willing to assist anyone interested in writing an article.  Marijuana U-Tube Julia See Public Health comments above.  Records Training Catharine Catharine reminded members they need to complete the online Public Records Act Training. Catharine requested Teresa send out the link to the training again and a reminder. VII. New Business Port Townsend Police Department will be participating in the Drug Take Back day on September 27th. Anne will bring a signup sheet to the next SAAB meeting. Anne and Julia will be talking to the Chimacum Coalition about partnering for this event.  Other Artis was inquiring about the Meth Task Force as he is exploring options for an individual asking about treatment for Meth addiction.
