Provider Reports Prevention Kelly Switch from Life Skills Training to Second Step. Maintaining Protecting You / Protecting Me in the PTSD There is a strong possibility that Blue Heron Middle School will be changing the prevention curriculum presented to all middle school students in the 2013-2014 school years from Life Skills Training to Second Steps. Anne Dean, Garin Williams and Mike Evans will be meeting with the Blue Herron staff to discuss this possibility on July 16th. Youth Marijuana Summit, July 10, 2013 A statewide meeting to look at the implementation of the marijuana laws and regulations is being planned in the Sea Tac area for July 10th. Kelly Matlock and Anne Dean will be going to this summit. If you are interested in attending this summit, talk to Kelly immediately. PRI Site Port Townsend School District has decided to not participate in the Prevention Redesign Initiative. This means that the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) efforts will now be focused on Chimacum. Kelly Matlock, Anne Dean, Whitney Meissner, the Principal for Chimacum High School and Chimacum Middle School, Kristin Schutte and Michelle Dower from OESD114 met on Thursday, June 20th to discuss the beginning plans for the development of a new prevention coalition in Chimacum. The tentative plans are for Kelly Matlock to contact community members in Chimacum in July and August about this new prevention coalition with intentions to start meeting in September. 2 APPROVED September 10, 2013 Friends of Rich Finn Kelly Matlock and Anne Dean have been meeting with the Friends of Rich Finn to explore ways that we can collaborate on a public awareness campaign. The campaign would be focused on sharing information in the community about the early, middle and late stages to the disease of alcoholism and other addictions and community resources for individuals with substance abuse issues and for friends and family of folks with abuse issues. Public Health Julia Lois Barnett has submitted a letter of interest to become a SAAB member. An interview needs to be scheduled. The next Board of Health meeting is scheduled of July 16th at the Health Department. John Wiesman, DrPH, MPH Washington State Secretary of Health will be attending this meeting. County Drug and Alcohol Coordinator Ford Ford reported Safe Harbor had provided $4,611.10 in free services in June, 2013 as service needs went over the allocated funds provided by the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery. Ford also reported the proposed budget for the upcoming biennium has been cut by over $ 63,000.00 from the last biennium which will result in a reduction in services offered in Jefferson County. Mental Health Sam No Report Youth Report Garin Garin reported that since school is out for the summer things have slowed down. He did mention that the Concerts on the Dock series has started and noted that alcohol is being served at this event and Garin was wondering if there were any options to have prevention resources and literature available. Kelly will follow up with Garin on any materials that may be available to hand out. VI. Old Business  Jail Relapse Prevention program Fran Relapse Prevention Education group is seeing an increase in the number of participants recently, especially female inmates.  Drug Take Back totals Fran/Kay No Reports  Volunteer Opportunities for Youth Garin Garin is currently doing research on this topic and will report on it at a future meeting. VII. New Business Fran read an article that announced King County’s efforts to have drug manufacturers provide financing to cover the cost of drug take back events/stations. John Austin will discuss with the State Board of Health to see about the potential of other counties pursuing this. Garin will be speaking to Tim Craig about a partnership to address the needs of youth.
