Anne Dean and Kelly Matlock will need to follow up with Lois Barnett to plan “Next
Steps.”
Switch from Life Skills Training to Second Steps. Maintaining Protecting You /
Protecting Me in the PTSD
Blue Heron Middle School will be changing the prevention curriculum presented to all
middles school students in the 2013 – 2014 school year from Life Skills Training to
Second Steps. Second Steps is also an evidence-based curriculum. It is our
understanding that they will be maintaining Protecting You/ Protecting Me in the
elementary school and for the 5th grade class (Please note that due to a variety of issues,
the PY/PM curriculum has never been given to the 4th grade class.) Anne Dean is
continuing to work with Diane Lashinsky, the Principal at Blue Heron Middle School, on
community members assisting in the facilitation of these classes.
Public Health Julia
Julia provided information (pamphlets, posters, etc) on HealthCare Reform. Jefferson
Health Care has staff available to help clients sign up for medical plans.
There will be no Public Health Meeting in November.
County Drug and Alcohol Coordinator Ford
Teresa reported on recent issues with clients applying for medical coverage instead of
ADATSA for Drug/Alcohol treatment funding. Clients that need funding for treatment need
to apply for ADATSA only. If they are applying for medical coverage they will not be
eligible for funding until January 1, 2014 (except for pregnant women and women with
children). Funding through ADATSA is available through December 31, 2013 and
ADATSA clients will automatically roll over to medical coverage funding on January 1st.
Clients that are found eligible for medical coverage now become ineligible for ADATSA.
Mental Health Sam
Sam reported Jefferson Mental Health does not have the capacity to serve increased
numbers of people eligible for services. People will have coverage that will cover Mental
Health services but JMH will not be able to provide services due to staff shortages. Sam
believes this issue will be statewide for Mental Health services. JMH reserves are down
$500,000 to $600,000 in the last year.
Youth Report Garin
Last week was Garin’s first week back at the school. No report.
VI. Old Business

participants in the Relapse Prevention program.
Drug Take Back totals Fran/Kay
Fran reported the Sheriff’s Department took in 45 lbs in October. The Port Townsend
Police Department took in 31 lbs at the recent Drug Take Back day.
