Switch from Life Skills Training to Second Step. Maintaining Protecting You /
Protecting Me in the PTSD (same as last month)
Blue Heron Middle School will be changing the prevention curriculum presented to all
middles school students in the 2013 – 2014 school year from Life Skills Training to
Second Steps. Second Step is also an evidence-based curriculum. It is our
understanding that they will be maintaining Protecting You/ Protecting Me in the
elementary school and for the 5th grade class (Please note that due to a variety of
issues, the PY/PM curriculum has never been given to the 4th grade class.) Anne Dean
is continuing to work with Diane Lashinsky, the Principal at Blue Heron Middle School,
on community members assisting in the facilitation of these classes.
Public Health Julia
Julia reported that Fran has submitted her letter of intent to pursue another term on the
Substance Abuse Advisory Board. The letter will be reviewed at the upcoming Board of
Health meeting on Thursday, December 19th, 2013.
County Drug and Alcohol Coordinator Ford
Ford reported 4 individuals graduated at the recent Drug Court graduation. He also
informed the group that Mental Health Court is growing and Captain Stringer of the
Jefferson County Sherriff’s Department is very pleased with the Mental Health Court.
Ford wanted to acknowledge Cathy Morgan of Olycap for the work she has done to
provide housing at the Haines Street Cottages to Drug Court and Mental Health Court
clients. Options are being explored to develop an Oxford House for women in Port
Townsend.
Safe Harbor almost had to suspend services to State funded clients because there were
no more State funds available to provide services for November and December. The
Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) responded to a correspondence
Ford sent with a contract amendment so services would not be suspended.
Ford signed the County contract for the 1/10 of 1% funding for 2014. Family Therapeutic
Court will be changing and Ford has been asked to be the Family Therapeutic Court
Administrator

Friends of Rich Finn Lois
Tonight is the Poetic Justice event, “Drinkin’ & Druggin’: Good Times, Abuse, or
Addiction?” This event will offer the audience an opportunity to simply watch and
listen or participate actively in the dialogue in a variety of ways. Audience members
are invited to share personal stories, struggles, and experiences. The entire evening
will be brought to life by the actors through physical imagery and improvisation to
honor and reflect what is shared. The audience will ultimately be invited to actively
explore solutions to the complex questions raised. It can literally be a rehearsal for
the future in which audience “spect-actors” take action towards creating the kind of
world they want.
King County Take Back Ordinance John
No Report.
Fran did report that the Pharmaceutical companies have filed a suit against King
County. No court date has been set yet.
Recovery Community Recruitment Ford
Ford has continued to work on recruiting members of the Recovery Community to
become SAAB members. Fran suggested see if a Drug Court graduate may be
interested as she feels this would be a good candidate to become a member.
VII. New Business
Teresa will present a treatment report at the next SAAB meeting.
Fran reminded members that new Officers will need to be elected at the January
meeting. Fran clearly let the group know that she will not be accepting another
nomination for the Chair position as she feels it is time for some “new blood.”
