Jefferson Healthcare ER and Anne Dean with SAAB. We are waiting to hear from KPTZ
as to when the program will be aired.
The next presentation will be a parent, a sibling and young person in recovery. Kelly
Matlock has connected with a parent and a sibling who are willing to discuss their
experience with a child and a sibling with a substance abuse issue. Chase Glenn will
connect with a Gray Wolf resident to be the young person in recovery for this
presentation.
Project Alert – new
Project Alert will no longer be facilitated by Jeff. Co Public Health due to funding.
Kelly Matlock is meeting with teachers, counselors and principals from Blue Heron Middle
School and Chimacum Middle School to brainstorm ways that the classes can continue to
be presented. There may be some interesting possibilities.
Protecting You / Protecting Me
Greg Peterson at Grant Street Elementary is presenting PY/PM to 1st through 3rd grades
this spring. Mike Evans and Garin Williams with PT Police are presenting the 5th grade
classes at Blue Heron for this May. Kelli Greenspane with the Sheriff’s Dept. facilitated
the classes at Chimacum Middle School in January and February. Due to unforeseen
issues, the 4th grade will not have PY/PM facilitated this year, but for next year, Greg
Peterson has committed to doing the classes for the 4th grade.
Our Kids: Our Business and Dr Anda’s presentation.
OKOB’s 5th year and Dr. Robert Anda’s and Quen Zorrah’s presentations were a big
success.
Community ACEs trainings
Anne Dean, assisted by Kelly Matlock, presented information on ACEs and facilitated a
discussion at the Boiler Room on Monday, May 7th.
Public Health Julia
Julia informed the group that the next Department of Public Health meeting will be on
May 17, 2012.
Julia also reported Tony Hernandez had submitted his letter requesting re-appointment to
the SAAB and the BOH will be approving this request.
County Drug and Alcohol Coordinator Ford
Teresa provided SAAB members with invitations to the next Drug Court graduation that is
scheduled for May 17, 2012 at 8:30 am in the Superior Courtroom.
Mental Health Sam
Sam reported that MH had received very minor cuts in the State budget as they were
“nothing” compared to what had been projected.
MH court is proceeding and Sam reports the Judges are very “enthusiastic.” MH court is
currently in a training phase. Grant monies from the Bureau of Justice Administration are
being used for this training. Sam feels that all components are basically in place to
proceed with a MH court. The concept of MH court is similar to the Drug Court agreement
to participate in treatment.
Mike Phimister would like to invite a NAMI member to speak to the SAAB members.

VI. Old Business
1. Jail Relapse Prevention program Fran
Fran reported there continues to be around the same number of participants
in the jail Relapse Prevention program but there were fewer groups in April
due to illness.
2. Parent Party Patrol PT radio, Carrie Kelly/Anne

Drug Take Back Outreach Project Kay/Tony
Kay reported that 5 pounds, 4 ounces of prescription medication was turned
into the Police Station drop box in April.
The Drug Take Back day resulted in 45 pounds, 7 ounces of prescribed
medications being turned in.
The DEA picked up 4 huge boxes of medications today to transport to the
disposal site. Across Washington State 256 tons of medication was collected.
Pamphlet Update Anne/Conner
The pamphlet is currently at the printers. Don’s pharmacy and Safeway
pharmacy are both open to this project. Fran will take flyers to Tony
Hernandez. Conner will talk to the hospital about participating in this project.
Hargopal will develop a press release and bring it to the next meeting.
4. Article for press release John
Held over until next meeting.
VII. New Business
Ray Hunter resignation - Fran reported she sent an email to Ray Hunter acknowledging
his resignation from the board.
Tony Hernandez new term - Tony Hernandez accepted a new 3 year term with the board.
Board Member attendance - Fran voiced concerns over Coleman’s lack of attendance to
board meetings. Discussion will be held over until next meeting.
SAAB Annual Board Meeting- Fran provided information about the last SAAB annual
meeting as Mike Phimister had requested a discussion to see if the Jefferson County
SAAB would be interested in hosting this year’s meeting. Fran feels this would be a big
undertaking. Sam suggested getting information from Clark County on their experience of
hosting the meeting last year. Sam also stated he felt waiting a year may be
advantageous as the Mental Health Court would be up and running and we could look
into including Drug Court and the Drug Take Back program in the event.
