Approval of Agenda –M/S/A John/Conner/All II. None III. Approval of the July and August, 2012 SAAB meeting minutes. Catharine found an error in the August minutes. Minutes will be amended to read I-502 instead of I-520. M/S/A John/Anne/All IV. Public Comments/From the Floor/Announcements None V. Provider Reports Prevention Kelly Marijuana Policy Summit Kay Pownall, Anne Dean and Kelly Matlock attended the Washington Association for Substance Abuse & Violence Prevention (WASAVP) Marijuana Policy Summit for Washington substance abuse prevention advocates on July 30th. Anne Dean has drafted a talking points document on the upcoming I-502 initiative on Marijuana Legalization for the Board’s review. DBHR Prevention Redesign – Cohort 1 The Communities That Care trainings were completed with the August 15th Community Planning Training & Community Plan Implementation training. Attached is a document that summarizes the CTC process up to the last CTC training. Now, Anne Dean, Kelly Matlock and the Port Townsend Coalition are in the process of writing the PRI Prevention Strategic Plan. Submission date to DBHR is October 1st. KPTZ Panel Presentation Kelly Matlock has not been able at this point to move ahead with the presentation that will feature a parent, a sibling and young person in recovery. So she has begun organizing the presentation on the legal implications of underage use for youth and parents. As more develops, you will be informed. 2 APPROVED October 9, 2012 Project Alert (or Life Skills) and Protecting You / Protecting Me These prevention curriculums are a part of the developing Prevention Strategic Plan. It is the beginning of the school year, and at this point there is nothing to report. As more develops you will be informed. Annual DBHR Prevention Summit The annual DBHR Prevention Summit is scheduled for Sunday, November 4th through Tuesday, November 6th. If you are interested in attending, please contact Kelly Matlock at 360-379-4476 or kmatlock@co.jefferson.wa.us Public Health Julia Next Board of Health meeting is on Thursday, September 13, 2012. The board will be approving Conner’s request for another term on the board. Julia explained that vacant positions on the SAAB must be advertised in the local paper. County Drug and Alcohol Coordinator Ford Teresa handed out invitations to the upcoming Drug Court graduation on September 20, 2012. Teresa informed the group that the lab used by Safe Harbor, Sterling Reference Laboratory, had recently caught a UA sample that was synthetic urine. The abnormally low creatinine levels alerted the lab and further testing was ordered and a “not consistent with human urine” result returned. Mental Health Sam No Report Youth Report Coleman Coleman informed the group that due to circumstances beyond his control he will not be doing the Eagle Scout project he had announced last month. He will seek other opportunities to pursue a different project. VI. Old Business 1. Jail Relapse Prevention program Fran  Fran reported the Jail Relapse Prevention is back up and running with 8 – 12 participants. 2. Communities That Care Project Workshop Report Anne See Kelly’s report 3. Drug Take Back Outreach Project Kay/Fran  Kay reported that 16 lbs, 3 oz of prescription medication was turned into the Police Station drop box in August.  Fran reported the Sheriff’s Department took in 34 pounds in August.  Catharine reported the drug take back inserts are slated to be included with the October water bills. 3 APPROVED October 9, 2012  Handouts were provided for distribution at Don’s Pharmacy, QFC Pharmacy and Safeway Pharmacy.  John will check into the possibility of PUD as a candidate for the drug take back hand outs. 4. Follow-up Press Release distribution ideas Fran No Report. 5. Exemplary Substance Abuse Award application John John reported the application had been submitted. Winners should be announced on or around October 15, 2012. VII. New Business Anne provided handouts of the “Should Washington Legalize Marijuana pamphlet draft. Anne requested the SAAB endorse the pamphlet and support putting out educational information on I-502. M/S/A Conner/John/All. Pamphlet approved as written and approved for distribution. Anne was commended for an “exceptional” document. How to use document: Anne’s distribution list will be made available on the Public Health web site. Copies of the final form will be made. Anne and John will talk to Allison Arthur at the Leader to bring the Leader on board. Kay reminded members the next Drug Take Back day will be September 29, 2012 at Safeway.
