The Prevention Redesign Initiative Plan was submitted to DBHR in October. Anne Dean
and Kelly Matlock met with Julie Bartlett, the DBHR Regional Prevention Manager on
October 19th to discuss the Plan. The Prevention Redesign Initiative Plan is in the
process of being finalized with DBHR and will be presented on Dec. 17, 2012 from 3:00
to 5:00 at the Cotton Building. The information will also be posted on the Public Health
web site.

Public Health Julia
Julia will make sure Garin Williams’ letter of interest in becoming a SAAB member will be
on the agenda for the next Board of Health meeting. The next Board of Health meeting is
scheduled for December 20, 2012.
County Drug and Alcohol Coordinator Ford
Ford attended a meeting of the Association of County Human Services (ACHS) and
reported the State is working on a plan to reformulate dividing funding to all the Counties.
This could impact delivery of services.
Ford is in the running for the Chair position with the ACHS. Voting for this position will
occur at the January, 2013 ACHS meeting.
Ford announced the intent of the AA community to stop the AA meetings at the jail due to
continued issues with getting members screened and approved and the lack of resolution
on this issue. The issue has been going on for close to a year and there appears to be no
resolution in sight in the near future. Fran asked John Austin to speak to the County
Administrator about this issue to find resolution. John said he would follow up but would
like to speak to Sheriff Hernandez first.
Mental Health Sam
Sam reported JMH will be funding the Life Skills curriculum in the schools as there is no
other funding to access. JHM is waiting for final word from the school district about JMH
providing schooling to the emotionality disturbed children through the Discovery School.
JMH is exploring providing other services, especially in Chimacum. Sam also reported
Mental Health Court is moving forward and a field trip is planned to go to Skagit County
to observe their Mental Health Court. The Jefferson County Court, Safe harbor, and
Jefferson Mental health are using their resources for this project.
Youth Report Garin
Garin reported there have not been a lot of substance use issues encountered at the
schools. There was one student that was using at Chimacum and was arrested for
assaulting their parent. Bath Salts were found on the premises. No THC issues to report
although teachers are concerned about the passing of I-502. Students are being
reminded that it is still illegal for minors to use THC. Chase asked Garin if he had heard
anything about a young female being taken to the hospital after smoking Spice. Garin
stated he had but he had no details as he had not read the report yet.
