Update on Relapse Prevention at the jail – Fran
Fran reported that Pat Wiggins has informed her that the numbers attending the groups at
the jail are the same (12-14 participants).
Update on RX disposal - Conner/Betty
A letter was written, signed by Tony Hernandez and forwarded to Conner Daily for review.
The letter was then sent to the Drug Enforcement Agency.
Update on March 4, 2010 Justice Grant application - Fran
Fran reported she had heard from Senator Cantwell’s office that information regarding the
March 4th, 2010 grant applications should be available in September, 2010.
SAAB members attendance - Fran
Fran informed the group that she has been unsuccessful in contacting Laura Blake
concerning her attendance on the Substance Abuse Advisory Board. All attempts to
contact her by phone have been met with a recording that the voice mailbox is full and she
has not received any responses to email. John Austin suggested the Board of Health send
a letter to Laura formally requesting her resignation. John will bring this up at the Board of
Health meeting scheduled for this Thursday, July 15, 2010.
SAAB member recruitment - Fran
Fran spoke on the need to recruit individuals in positions of decision making for the
vacancies on the Board. She then requested suggestions from members. Suggestions for
possible options included: a Junior of Senior High School student that is on the student
counsel, someone from the Boiler Room, someone with the School District, and
individuals from the recovery community.

VI. Provider Reports
Prevention – Karen
Tobacco Report
Karen Obermeyer reports that 5 out of 49 retailers failed tobacco compliance checks that
were conducted recently.
Public Health – Julia
No Report
County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Coordinator’s Report– Ford
In Ford’s absence Anne Dean reported that Dr. Taylor’s presentation, “Why Don’t They
Just Quit?” was attended by 120 individuals in the morning session and 50 individuals in
the evening session. Anne went on to discuss her feelings of this event being a “true
collaboration” and her thoughts on the number of individuals in the recovery process that
were in attendance.
VII. New Business
SAAB Collaborative Workshop Fran
Fran provided details on items that will be included in the First Annual Washington State
SAAB Collaborative Workshop, scheduled for October 16, 2010 in Vancouver,
Washington at the Center for Community Health. Fran went on to request confirmation of
attendance by Jefferson County SAAB members. Ray Hunter voiced his intentions on
attending this event.
Collateral Cost Campaign plan/discussion Anne
Anne presented information on the Six Year Strategic Plan that was developed in 2007.
Details included the history of, intentions of, priorities identified, etc. Karen provided an
overview of what Prevention is. Members discussed different ways to bring this
information to the community and agreed on starting with the Prevention part of the Six
Year Plan. Ideas presented include:
Increase Prevention Education (Protecting You/Protecting Me)
Train teachers in prevention/health curriculum
SAAB booth at Jefferson County Fair/ other health fairs
Add CPS board member?
Education campaign to parents/ people who buy for minors
Movies, media, retail
Does what we do impact the community?
How do we prove it?
How do we measure going forward?
Other
