View Facility Room 6 Meeting Minutes: Board Members Present: Fran Joswick, Tony Hernandez, John Austin, Sam Markow, Conner Daily, Anne Dean, Catharine Robinson, Board Members Absent: Betty Harmon, Ray Hunter Staff Present: Ford Kessler, Teresa Wirth, Staff Absent: Kelly Matlock, Julia Danskin, Karen Obermeyer Guests: Chase Glenn, Hargopal Singh Boyd, Michael Phimister, Raymond Goldsmith, Coleman Riddle, Barbara Hansen I. Approval of Agenda – M/S/A John Austin / Anne Dean / All. II. Introductions – Board members, staff and guests introduced themselves to one another. Fran announced that Hargopal Singh Boyd and Chase Glenn would be attending the next SAAB meeting as new members. III. Approval of the August, 2010 SAAB meeting minutes – M/S/A John Austin / Sam Markow / All IV. Public Comments/From the Floor/Announcements Fran Joswick announced changes to the date for the Washington State SAAB workshop. The new date is October 9th. Fran will distribute the agenda for the workshop to SAAB members via email. Fran and Ray Hunter are planning on attending and Fran asked if any other members would be able to attend with the change of date. Ford Kessler volunteered to drive to the workshop. Fran announced the National Recovery Month proclamation is under way. Fran shared some information provided by Kelly Matlock on the Washington State Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking “Let’s Draw the Line” campaign. A fact sheet was passed around and will be discussed at the next SAAB meeting. Barb Hansen announced a need for chaperones on October 14-16 for the Prevention Summit in Yakima. V. Provider Reports Prevention – Kelly None Public Health- Julia None County Drug and Alcohol Coordinator - Ford Ford Kessler reported he had received word of another across the board budget cut of 7% coming up for Substance Abuse Treatment. 2 APPROVED October 12, 2010 VI. Old Business Relapse Prevention Jail Program Fran Fran stated Pat Wiggins had reported that there continues to be 12-14 individuals attending the RPG groups at this time with the majority of attendees being male inmates. Drug Take Back Day Update Conner September 25, 2010 is National Drug Take Back day. Police representatives will be at Safeway on September 25th monitoring this function. The sheriff’s department lock box (much like a mailbox) in the foyer of the Sheriff’s Department so community members can drop off unused drugs. Tony Hernandez provided details on the protocols developed to meet the Drug Enforcement Agencies guidelines. The Port Townsend Police Department will also be getting one of these boxes. Fran suggested a press release on or about October 31, 2010. Fran requested SAAB members to volunteer at Safeway on September 25. Board member recruitment Fran Fran voiced her pleasure on the number of potential board members’ attending today’s meeting. She went on to explain the procedure for formally applying to becoming a board member. Continuation of the collateral cost campaign/discussion Anne/Fran Fran shared a draft copy of the “Did You Know” ad that will be placed in the Port Townsend Leader on September 22nd. Feedback from board members will be utilized to make a few changes to the ad The Meth Action Team will be funding the ad. Fran recommended the Board “fine tune” current projects, attend the Collaborative workshop, and take time to bring the new SAAB members “up to speed.” She did ask members to be thinking about ideas for future ads geared towards collateral costs.
