Fran

VII. New Business
Fran had Sam Markow provide details on a Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Justice
and Mental Health Collaboration Program grant opportunity. Sam informed the group this
is a 2 year grant that could provide up to $200,000.00 to enhance the Co-Occurring
Disorders Integrated Treatment (CODIT) program. The Justice and Mental Health
Collaboration Program seeks to increase public safety through innovative cross-system
collaboration for individuals with mental illnesses or co-occurring mental health and
substance abuse disorders who come into contact with the justice system. The Bureau of
Justice Assistance is seeking applications that demonstrate a collaborative project
between criminal justice and mental health partners from eligible applicants to plan,
implement, or expand a justice and mental health collaboration program. Sam informed
the group that last year there were 200 proposals submitted for this grant nationally and
62 of them were funded.
Sam feels components from the last 2 grant applications could be used in this application
and he requested Tom Brotherton be contacted to work on this project. Fran has asked
Sam to speak to Tony Hernandez for contact information for Tom Brotherton. The
deadline for this proposal is February 3, 2011.
