HomeMy WebLinkAbout200912_SAAB_Min_DecApproved February 9, 2010 JEFFERSON COUNTY SUBSTANCE ABUSE ADVISORY BOARD A G E N D A Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:30 – 5:00 PM Fiesta Jalisco Mexican Restaurant, Port Hadlock, WA Meeting Minutes: Board Members Present: John Austin, Anne Dean, Ray Hunter, Fran Joswick, Catharine Robinson Board Members Absent: Mike Blair, Conner Daily, Betty Harmon, Tony Hernandez Staff Present: Ford Kessler, Julia Danskin, Kelly Matlock Meeting called to order at 4pm by Chair, Fran Joswick. I. Approval of Agenda—M/S/A John/Ray/All II. Introductions III. Approval of the November, 2009 SAAB meeting minutes –M/S/A Ray/Catharine/All IV. Public Comments/From the Floor/Announcements Perfect Attendance award  Catharine Robinson received a ―Perfect Attendance Award‖ for 2009  Ford Kessler mentioned that the upcoming legislative session will be very tough and the anticipated cuts to treatment services are expected to be very harsh V. Old Business 1. Status report on jail relapse prevention program  Program continues to go well—currently has 7 men and three women participating  Want to collect stronger data regarding recidivism rates of inmate population for those in Relapse Prevention Program. Can this be done? Will continue to work with Siri and Jean Baldwin on this. 2. Discussion and vote on draft mission statement  The group created the following draft: ―Under the direction of the Board of Health, the Substance Abuse Advisory Board, per RCW 70.96A.300, aims to protect public health within the community by increasing awareness of the impacts of alcohol, substance abuse and chemical dependency on all citizens of Jefferson County. The Board develops and implements cost-effective strategies that prevent, intervene, treat and provide aftercare to reduce the significant impacts on our community. This is accomplished by networking within the community and presenting timely and pertinent information.‖ 3. Update on collateral cost project –Anne  Moving somewhat slowly, but still moving forward. Some groups are resistant to providing information due to the time needed to assemble or not knowing where data figures could be assembled. Will continue to move forward. 4. Update on Rx disposal – Conner  Port Townsend Police Department will be involved. Conner still exploring possibilities. Conner will be SAAB contact person. Approved February 9, 2010  Bill Bennett in Clallam County is also working on RX disposal issues. 5. Update on reassignment of RPEP statistics – Fran  Fran is waiting on a summary report from Siri Kushner regarding the questionnaires that were previously completed by inmates upon admission to the jail. Julia will follow up with Jean to check on status. VI. Provider Reports – revisions/corrections  Held over until January, 2010 meeting. VII. New Business  Discussed the financial problems of the Boiler Room and will they make it going forward?  Ray asked about a Needle Exchange Program in Jefferson County. Julia explained that there is an active exchange program through Jefferson County Public Health.  How can Drug Court funds be increased? Let the festivities begin!
