Summary:
Employees in this classification, under direct supervision of the Jail Superintendent provide
support to jail operations while operating the control center by performing all security functions
in the Jefferson County Jail and performing clerical duties as assigned. Employees in this
position are responsible for traffic flow in the jail of staff, inmates and visitors, including arrivals
and departures, while providing visual and audio support to staff. Employees have routine
contact with the public and other government officials in person and by telephone. Employee
must react quickly and appropriately, especially in emergency situations. Work requires typing
of forms and other documents in the overall processing of documents related to the corrections
function.
The work is performed within a maximum security detention facility. Employees are required to
work various shift assignments. Control Room Operators will be assigned to work from the
Jefferson County Jail Main Control. Employees may be required to sit or stand for prolonged
periods of time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Operate facility doors from the security control console, appropriate with established
procedures. Maintain security of jail facility, confirming doors are secure at all times.
2. Limits law enforcement, public, and criminal justice access to the facility. Routes
Deputies, inmates and other individuals to designated locations as necessary; summons
outside assistance, patrol, fire and medical assistance as necessary.
3. Monitor security systems, including housing alarms, door position alarms, panic button
alarms, and fire alarms. If an alarm appears on the display, the Control Operator notifies
the staff on duty to check the area and determine the need to implement further
emergency procedures.
4. Operate communication systems, including radio, intercom, E-mail, voice mail, and
telephone.
5. Operate video monitoring systems through the use of multiple video cameras and
monitoring screens.
6. Respond to requests and inquiries from the public, and government agencies about
individuals incarcerated in Jefferson County Jail, following established procedures to
assure confidentiality.

7. Operate computer systems including jail management software, and Microsoft Office
software suite, and other Law Enforcement based programs.
8. Maintain various records and logs in electronic and paper formats that are generated
during the course of business at the Jefferson County Jail.
9. Type various correspondence, forms, and/or reports and appropriately route
correspondence, memos, faxes, and information to and from jail staff.
10. Accept, receive, receipt, and accurately account for money deposited for inmate bails,
fees, or deposited to or released from inmate accounts.
11. Assists the Jail Superintendent with monthly financial reports, medical billings, preparing
invoices for accounts payable, balance trust accounts, disbursement of fines, bail,
restitution money, and commissary sales.
12. Assists the Jail Superintendent in preparing complete and accurate reports, concerning
inmate population and jail functions as required by the Sheriff and/or State law.
13. Other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received:
Persons in this position are given discretion, within the scope of policy and regulations, in the
routine performance of their duties; supervision and guidance are received from the Jail
Superintendent, and Corrections Sergeants.

Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must
be a U.S. Citizen. Post -secondary education in a law enforcement field is desirable.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and
legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers,
regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to
practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or
diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
Ability to use a personal computer and software calculator, and other office equipment
standard to areas of assignment and to adapt to new and/ or modified equipment which
may be acquired.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Washington State Driver's License with a driving record free of serious or frequent
violations and ability to maintain a valid license.
Ability to successfully complete various required training classes and obtain certificates
necessary for functional skills performance, maintenance and improvement.
Must successfully pass a Personal Background Evaluation, Including a Polygraph test,
Psychological Evaluation, and fingerprinting.
