All Jefferson County School Districts will continue to access funds for the IFSP educational component, for children Birth to Three with delays and their families as a valued partner with other Early Intervention Service Providers. PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: 2010 Actual 2011 Projected 2012 Projected Number of persons in Child Development that have been served, are currently being served and/or we are planning to serve 7-14 Children 7-18 Children 6-9 Children Total Number of Units of Service 286 415 234 SUMMARY OF KEY FUNDING/SERVICE ISSUES: The Developmental Disabilities Child Development Program supports the though development and maintenance of birth to three early intervention services that are specialized, therapeutic and educational. An issue of concern is that a significant portion of the incidence of children born with Developmental Disabilities can be attributed to preventable circumstances, such as substance abuse during pregnancy, inadequate prenatal heath care and nutrition, teenage pregnancy, and environmental toxins. In addition, the severity of disability and developmental delay can often be mitigated through early intervention services with children and families living “at risk”. Continue to increase public understanding of the importance of early intervention services to occur as early as possible, in order to maximize the full potential for each child. The message “Babies Can’t Wait” must persist in transforming the community norm.
