Share air time and encourage all members to participate DRAFT MINUTES March 14, 2018 3:00 to 4:00 pm Chimacum High School Library PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Plan 4 Focus Groups (two with students, two with adults- preferably parents of 12-18 year olds.) Identify dates and locations for Focus Groups. Discuss and develop open ended questions. Please bring suggestions of where to present and which audiences you have access to. Also think about what kind of training you/we would like as a coalition, and bring suggestions of trainings you’re aware of. Facilitators for this meeting: Denise Banker and Brian MacKenzie In attendance: Ciela Meyer, Mark Gudger, Chris Hoffman-Hill, Sarah Rogers, Kris Becker, Kathleen Kler, Ron McClung, Justine Bedell Absent: Terri Naughton, Tanya Barnett, Pinky Mingo, Richard Davies Time/Facilitator Activity 3:00 Brian Call meeting to order; Approve agenda – Chris moved, Kathleen seconded; motion carried. Approve Feb 2018 minutes – Kathleen moved, Ciela seconded; motion carried. 3:05 Brian/Denise Announcements: Guiding Good Choices training will be attended by Denise and Pinky; Senovia has resigned her role. Film showing “Angst” on the topic of anxiety, Jefferson County Library and Chimacum School District partnership, possibly Discovery Behavioral Health provide support, guest speaker TBD. Poverty Institute training will be attended by Kris, Chris and Denise. There is room for one more person – let Denise know ASAP. 3:15 Brian/Denise Discuss and plan two Youth Focus Groups, two Adult Focus Groups – see next page for notes. 4:00 Brian Close Meeting. The April 11th, 2018 meeting of the Chimacum Prevention Coalition will be held at the Chimacum High School Library from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION IS GOOD WORK. Jefferson County Public Health http://www.jeffersoncountypublichealth.org/index.php?c-p-c Denise Banker 360-385-9438 dbanker@co.jefferson.wa.us FOCUS GROUP NOTES: Purpose is to seek youth and parent input on coalition activities, image, and participation, and their perspective on alcohol and marijuana. Group participants:  Brian can help organize participation of a cross-section of high school students.  Justine can help organize participation of adults in recovery community (including parents).  Second youth focus group possibly could include middle school students at Teen Center and/or library, especially on early-release days? Format:  Each focus group meeting would have a facilitator and note-taker.  We need to make decision re.: time, place, date.  Method would be mixed, and include opportunities for visual/graphic and kinetic responses, along w/ verbal: o Flip-charting/posters o Jot pads – anonymous responses in a hat or basket o Discussion/probing questions o Preference surveys Questions:  What should our coalition be called? Give examples for focus group to build upon  How can we make our brochure more inviting? Appealing to youth? Communicate what we do?  Interest in the following activities? o After prom o After grad o Movie nights o Game nights (or other alternative to formal dances) o Open gym/weight room o After school  chess/board games  video gaming  movies  poetry slam  graphic novels/comics/anime/manga  video arts/filmmaking  music/jam sessions/DJ  What activities would you like? What would make your free time more interesting?  What are your thoughts/ideas about casual use vs. addiction? FINDINGS: will be used to guide and shape next year’s coalition action plan.
