Share air time and encourage all members to participate DRAFT AGENDA February 14, 2018 3:00 to 4:00 pm Chimacum High School Library THE CHIMACUM PREVENTION COALITION FEBRUARY 14, 2018 MEETING WILL BE FROM 3:00 – 4:00 AT THE CHIMACUM HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY, 91 WEST VALLEY ROAD, CHIMACUM, WA. PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Presentation: Emilia DeSouza. Discuss our name, review revised brochure design and photos, plan community presentation schedule and sign up to help develop and/or deliver presentations. Please bring suggestions of where to present and which audiences you have access to. Also think about what kind of training you/we would like as a coalition, and bring suggestions of trainings you’re aware of. Facilitators for this meeting: Denise Banker and Brian MacKenzie In attendance: Ciela Meyer, Terri Naughton, Sarah Rogers, Kris Becker, Kathleen Kler, Senovia Ewers, Ron McClung. Absent: Mark Gudger, Chris Hoffman-Hill, Bob Wicks, Tanya Barnett, Pinky Mingo, Richard Davies. Time/Facilitator Activity 3:00 Brian/Denise Call meeting to order; Approve agenda – Kathleen moved, Kris seconded; motion carried. Approve January 2018 minutes – Kathleen moved, Sarah seconded; motion carried. 3:05 Emilia/Denise Emilia DeSouza Presentation postponed for a future meeting tbd. 3:15 Brian/Denise Discuss our name. Add something to clarify what we are preventing. Or take a positive outcome focus, such as Kitsap Strong or Thurston Together. Suggestions included: Chimacum Change, Chimacum Challenge, Chimacum Unchained (maybe too strong). Is there a name that encourages self-acceptance and self-esteem? 3:20 Brian/Denise Review revised brochure design and photos. Suggestions to emphasize what the coalition is working toward and with whom – event & activity info, history and outcomes, photos of Prevention Club & club president, etc. Get input from the club on what they think would look good. Discussion re: purpose and activities of the coalition, how we are serving and engaging our youth and our community, how we communicate our results. The current year’s action plan is set. Next year’s plan can be more active and include more alternative activities for youth such as open gyms, movie nights, partnering with the Teen Center, middle school prevention club, partnering with other student clubs/groups, etc. if the coalition is more involved in building the plan, getting youth input, and volunteering to implement activities outside of monthly meetings. Activities remaining to complete this year’s plan:  film showing in partnership with county library  focus groups (design these to inform the next action plan)  Guiding Good Choices training (Denise, Pinky, Senovia)  community presentations  3 trainings: diversity, cultural competency, sustainability 3:50 Brian/Denise What kind of training you/we would like as a coalition? Do you have suggestions of trainings you’re aware of. 4 people to attend cultural competency training from Communication Across Barriers in Portland in June: Denise, Kris, and two others tbd. Communication Across Barriers also has trainers that could come to Chimacum. The YWCA in Olympia and Pizza Klatch are 2 possible sources for diversity training and are DBHR approved. Ron moved to adjourn, Kathleen seconded; meeting adjourned. The March 14, 2018 meeting of the Chimacum Prevention Coalition will be held at the Chimacum High School Library from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. Purpose: Plan 4 Focus Groups (Two youth. Two adult): Identify where, Dates in April/May, Discuss and develop questions. (Suggestions for locations: High School, Middle School. Grange, Port Ludlow, WSU classroom) ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION IS GOOD WORK.
