STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Jefferson County Public Health requests authorization to engage in social media outreach meet grant requirements. ANALYSIS/ STRATEGIC GOALS/ PRO'S and CON'S: Based on a projected March 31, 2018 date for completion, approval and implementation of the County Social Media Policy, the health department applied for grant funding from the State Department of Health. Part of that request for funding included social media outreach for the Family Planning Clinical services program. The purpose of using social media is to reach our most vulnerable population who live in remote areas of Jefferson County and increase the clients we reach. Our clients are primarily of the age group that obtains information through social media platforms such as Facebook as opposed to traditional print media. The State Department of Health uses social media extensively (in addition to traditional media), as do other local health departments, to ensure that information is easily available to the broadest constituency. Therefore, the State Department of Health supported the social media outreach by providing grant funding for the health department to use. It is important that the health department have the tools to effectively communicate information to those folks most likely to use our services. The grant from the State Department of Health provides us with funding to establish a presence on Facebook and to -utilize Facebook to get information out to potential clients. 6,e-_ L-1r6x2L, T-i L✓.i7S /1.. (—rc.tLr— 5 .yarn atl•c1 oiv FISCAL IMPACT/COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS: The grant funding that the health department received must be spent by June 30, 2018.
