HomeMy WebLinkAboutM12032013 RISK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE December 3, 2013 -10:00 a.m. MEETING MINUTES MEMBERS: Philip Morley, County Administrator/Risk Manager Erin Lundgren, Clerk of the Board/Risk Coordinator (Chair) Judi Morris, Treasurer Jean Baldwin, Public Health Director Bob Hamlin, Safety Officer LEGAL COUNSEL: David Alvarez, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney RECORDER: Leslie Locke, Deputy Clerk of the Board Chair Erin Lundgren called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. in the presence of Members Jean Baldwin and Philip Morley and Legal Counsel David Alvarez. Members Judi Morris and Bob Hamlin were absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Member Baldwin moved to approve the meeting minutes of November 5, 2013 as presented. Member Morley seconded the motion. The motion carried. EXECUTIVE SESSION An Executive Session was scheduled from 10:05 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. with the County Administrator, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, Public Health Director, Clerk of the Board and the Deputy Clerk of the Board regarding actual litigation. This exemption is outlined in the Open Public Meetings Act RCW 42.30.110(1)(i). The actual period of time the Committee met in Executive Session on this topic was from 10:05 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. At the conclusion of the Executive Session the Committee resumed the regular meeting and no action was taken. An Executive Session was scheduled from 10:15 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. with the County Administrator, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, Public Health Director, Clerk of the Board and the Deputy Clerk of the Board regarding potential litigation. This exemption is outlined in the Open Public Meetings Act RCW 42.30.110(1)(i). Claim No.: C-08-13 Claimant: Florence Jevne Damages: $10,000.00 Allegation: Property Damage The Committee reviewed the details of this claim. The claimant alleges the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office damaged a shed while performing a search for weapons. The Sheriff's Office obtained a search warrant and Deputies performed a search of the shed legally. Member Morley moved to take no action. Member Baldwin seconded the motion. The motion carried. OLD BUSINESS Discussion re: Cost Savings and Department Pay Back of Claims. This item was cancelled and will be rescheduled. NEW BUSINESS Deputy Prosecutor Alvarez stated that he attended the Washington Counties Risk Pool Fall conference. He briefly discussed issues the Risk Pool is facing such as a Clark County lawsuit and Initiative 502 enforcement.
