Share air time and encourage all members to participate DRAFT MINUTES April 11, 2018 3:00 to 4:00 pm Chimacum High School Library PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: ~Report/Update from Denise on CPC activities. ~Identify dates and locations for Youth Focus Groups. Brian will notify students. Decide format and questions. ~Discuss Social Host Ordinance approach. ~Make plans for what we want to include in Action Plan school-year 2018-2019. Facilitators for this meeting: Denise Banker and Brian McKenzie. In attendance: Ciela Meyer, Chris Hoffman-Hill, Tanya Barnett, Kris Becker, Ron McClung, Justine Bedell, Mark Gudger Absent: Sarah Rogers, Kathleen Kler, Terri Naughton, Pinky Mingo, Richard Davies Time/Facilitator Activity 3:00 Denise Call meeting to order; Approve agenda – Kris moved, Chris seconded; motion carried. Approve March 2018 minutes – Chris moved, Ciela seconded; motion carried. 3:05 Denise, Tanya, Chris, Justine ~Reported on Pastor’s Lunch that Denise attended; two churches interested in helping with Guiding Good Choices next year. ~Meeting with Teen Center on April 16 to discuss possible merger with the Coalition. Discussion re: funding, operational structure, program structure, past partnerships, etc. of Teen Center. ~Adult focus groups are scheduled, enthusiastic response among recovery community. Activity for next year is a panel discussion for teens with these adults. ~Film screening of “Angst” is planned for school day and evening on April 23, w/ panel presentation. ~ Denise, Pinky, and Karen Obermeyer attending the Guiding Good Choices training. Curriculum will be purchased and 2 groups taught as part of next FY action plan. ~Drug Take Back is April 28 @ Safeway in partnership with Port Townsend Police. ~YMPEP focus group in Port Townsend provided valuable info from teens. Use as model/continue to partner w/ YMPEP on this and other activities, including Teens Against Pot Smoking (TAPS) where Sr. HS students teach prevention to middle schoolers. Coalition members invited to participate; please rsvp when you receive the invite w/ room #. 3:50 Denise Coalition members discussed next steps re: exploring feasibility of Social Host Ordinance including: Board of Health willingness to consider support (Denise), invite county commissioners for discussion, invite Sheriff to coalition meeting to explain enforcement of state RCW, research how violations of state RCW are charged in District Court (Justine). 4:00 Denise, Coalition Members Other announcements: ~Med assisted treatment center is opening at Shold center. ~Presentation for parents re: understanding children’s behaviors, evening of May 2 @ Community United Methodist in Port Hadlock. ~Ropes course facilitation training last weekend of April & first weekend of May, Sat-Sun 10-4, contact Tanya if interested. ~New flyer for HPV vaccines. ~Coalition is sending positive social norms postcards again this year to all parents, and the 11th-, and 12th- graders, for receipt during prom week. Materials to be approved through principal’s office. 4:10 Brian Close Meeting. The May 9th, 2018 meeting of the Chimacum Prevention Coalition will be held at the Chimacum High School Library from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. Purpose: Social Host Ordinance discussion with law enforcement, and 2018-2019 Action Plan. ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION IS GOOD WORK.
