It was agreed that this claim be denied, based on the finding that Jefferson County records indicate Oak Bay Road was not resurfaced in June. DECISION: Deny claim CLAIMANT: CLAIM #: DAMAGES: ALLEGATION: Kathryn Minta C-14-04 $291.16 Vehicle Damage DISCUSSION: The Risk Manager and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney reviewed this claim in light of further conversations with the Claimant's supervisor and information provided. In order for Jefferson County to be held responsible for damages, Jefferson County or its agents or employees must be the `proximate' cause of the damage or injury incurred. The committee could not find where Jefferson County (its employee or agents) was the causal agent to the loss; rather it was the unnamed individual who may have perpetrated the damage. The Claimant will be encouraged to follow-up with the Port Townsend Police Department to identify and seek relief from the person who inflicted the damage. It was agreed to table action pending further investigation. DECISION: Pending CLAIMANT: Richard Brees CLAIM #: C-16-04 DAMAGES: To Be Determined ALLEGATION: Character Defamation and Damage to Reputation DISCUSSION: The Risk Manager and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney reviewed the above referenced claim. It was agreed that this claim be denied, based on the finding that Mr. Brees' defamation claim was previously litigated and found to be without merit by the U.S. District Court Judge. DECISION: Deny Claim Meeting adjourned.
