May 1, 2000
Prosecuting Attorney Juelie Dalzell and Risk Manager David Goldsmith met to discuss the following
claims for damages. Claims Coordinator Erin Lundgren was also present.

CLAIMANT: Larry Hutton
DIST. CT.CASE#: 26-00
DAMAGES: $2,198.66
ALLEGATION: Damage to passenger side of vehicle due to driving on soft shoulder/false road.
DISCUSSION: Risk Manager David Goldsmith explained that initially Mr. Hutton had filed a
claim for damages against Jefferson County which was denied based on the finding
that the County is not liable for the damages claimed as the segment of roadway
where the incident occurred was properly constructed and striped according to
road design standards. Mr. Hutton has filed a small claims lawsuit in the Jefferson
County District Court and is asking for relief in the amount of$2,198.66. Risk
Manager David Goldsmith attended the mediation with Mr.Hutton. Based on the
discussions during mediation,the Risk Manager and Prosecuting Attorney agreed
to offer a settlement in the amount of$200.00 to Mr. Hutton.
DECISION: The Risk Manager and Prosecutor will recommend to the Board of County
Commissioners that a $200.00 settlement be offered to Mr. Hutton.
CLAIMANT: Patricia E. Porter
CLAIM NO: #C-11-00
DAMAGES: $700.00+
ALLEGATION: Loss of personal property
CLAIMANT: Donald D. Pruitt
CLAIM NO: #C-12-00
DAMAGES: $900.00
ALLEGATION: Loss of personal property
DISCUSSION: The Prosecuting Attorney and Risk Manager reviewed these two claims together
since the allegations are associated with one another. Discussion of these claims
was tabled on April 13,2000 pending further investigation. Risk Manager David

Goldsmith reported that the personal property(firearms)was in the possession of
the Sheriff's Office and later sold. Due to the condition of the personal property,
Ms. Porter's firearm was sold for$200.00 and Mr. Pruitt's firearms were sold for
$112.00.
DECISION: The Risk Manager and Prosecuting Attorney will recommend to the Board of
County Commissioners that the claims be paid for the reduced amounts.
