Our addendum was requested by Jefferson County to address ongoing erosion at the site. As identified in our original April 17, 2017 report, fill soils underly the house which provides support for the house’s conventional spread footings. Erosion along the toe is progressing as predicted and is dependent largely in tidal fluctuations and wind-driven waves from the north. The site is fairly low-energy, but the loose fill material is highly sensitive to erosion. Erosion over the 2017/2018 winter consists of ongoing sloughing and removal of the granular fill material adjacent to the deck and house. The house is not at immediate risk of being damaged but erosion is ongoing. Removal of the fill on any given storm could jeopardize the structure foundations within a three-year time frame. As a result, the soft-bank protection proposed initially should be installed this season to take advantage of the summer 2018 mild weather. Attached is the revised site plan showing proposed logs placed entirely landward of the Ordinary High Water (OHW) mark which is also consistent with the biologist’s determination of the OHW line.
