2018 Surplus Equipment Auction Calendar
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Central Service's Fleet Services Division and Public Works' Solid
Waste Division have surplus equipment to be disposed. RCW 36.34.020, 36.34.030,
36.34.340, 36.34.050 & 36.34.090 outline statutory requirements to dispose of property.
The list of equipment is included with the draft Resolution.
ANALYSIS: Equipment to be sold auction by James G Murphy, Inc., of Kenmore,
Washington at the Jefferson County Shop located at 371 Chimacum Road, Port Hadlock,
Washington on September 21, 2018.
FISCAL IMPACT: Minimal revenue is expected. Proceeds from items will be returned to
individual departments separately (after Treasurer and Auditor publication expenses and
the auctioneer's percentage are deducted).
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Resolution for Notice of Intention to Sell and
approve the Notice of Public Hearing.

INTENTION TO SELL SURPLUS }
COUNTY PROPERTY } RESOLUTION NO.
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the County Commissioners of Jefferson County to dispose
of surplus property; and
WHEREAS, the various departments have indicated a need to dispose of those items on
the list of surplus equipment attached to this Resolution for sale at a public auction, and
WHEREAS, RCW 36.34.020 requires that an intention to declare surplus be published
with a Notice of Public Hearing regarding the disposal of any County property.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Commissioners of Jefferson County
that a Notice of Public Hearing shall be published as required by RCW 36.34.020 particularly
describing the property to be sold and designating a hearing to occur on the 16th day of July at
10:15 a.m. in the County Commissioner's Chambers, Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820
Jefferson Street, Port Townsend, Washington, for the purpose of declaring their intention to
dispose of surplus County property.

11. Within three days after the hearing a determination is made and it becomes a matter of record. (Nothing can be
changed or added once the Commissioners declare items surplus.) (RCW 36.34.050)
12. Auditor sends notices to the Leader(No later than Friday August 17, 2018)
13. Notice of Sale—Auditor must publish notice once a week for 2 successive weeks. Notice and date of first publication
at least 10 days prior to sale date with list of items for sale with time and date. (RCW 36.34.090)

14. Each department delivers all surplus items to the Hadlock Shop. (September 12, 2018)
15. Check with ER&R Manager to be sure they have all the titles to various vehicles listed on sale. Give to the auction
company no later than one week before the day of the sale. The Treasurer signs titles. The auction company will
take care of weight slips and anything else needed for vehicles. (September 14, 2018)
16. Auction service charges and pays the sales tax on items to the state.
