Commissioners Office
JEFFERSON COUNTY
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
TO: Board of County Commissioners
Philip Morley, County Administrator
FROM: Kate Dean, District 1, Jefferson County Commissioner
DATE: July 16, 2018
SUBJECT: UPDATE re: Recent activities of Jefferson Community Foundation and United
Good Neighbors; Siobhan Canty, Executive Director, Jefferson Community
Foundation and Director, United Good Neighbors
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Siobhan Canty, Executive Director, Jefferson Community Foundation and Director, United Good Neighbors
requested an opportunity to update the BoCC on recent activities of Jefferson Community Foundation and
United Good Neighbors. She became director a year ago and since then, many changes have happened
with both JCF and UGN. Because the common mission of both entities is to improve the quality of life for
all who live in Jefferson County, she thought it would be helpful for the Commissioners to get a sense of
their current efforts and how we might be an asset to the work of the Commission.

Campaign Features
Jefferson Community Foundation helping UGN manage the campaign.
ALL nonprofits in Jefferson County were invited to submit proposals, not only
traditional UGN/basic human needs organizations, over 60 proposals were
submitted.
A Community Outreach Team has undertaken site visits with all applicants to
ensure that any money donated to them via the Campaign will be well -used and
have impact
For the month of October, an Online Giving Catalog will be available through
which community members can donate directly to the nonprofits of their choice.
All funding sent to UGN via mail and workplace campaigns will remain
dedicated to basic service organizations, and UGN operations, as it has been
for over 60 years.
The JCF Community Network
Because JCF serves as a central community philanthropy for all of these efforts,
our community has:
A landscape perspective on community needs
Understanding of local nonprofits, their services, strengths and gaps
More donors and more financial resources
Capacity to design and execute effective new grantmaking progams
A coordinated landscape of grantmaking programs
A neutral space for building coalitions, collaborations and partnerships on
difficult community issues
