RE: Request for Board of County Commissioners approval of a letter in support of
Jefferson County's Historic Courthouse Grant Application for the 2019-2021
Historic Courthouse Grant Program
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
The Washington State Department of Archeology and Historic Preservation is currently soliciting applications for
the 2019-2021 Historic Courthouse Grant Program with an application deadline of August 1,2018.This grant
program has been a valuable resource to counties around the state as they work to preserve and restore their historic
courthouses.
ANALYSIS:
Jefferson County has been successful in the past with this program having secured funds for a number of courthouse
projects. Most recently,in 2013/2014,the county was able to secure funds to rehabilitate some badly deteriorating
windows and surrounds. Although the county made some progress much of that work remains. We are again asking
for grant funding to continue our work on the windows in the courthouse. To improve our chances of a grant award
in this cycle we are offering the cost of the courthouse boiler replacement project as match for the grant. This will
give us a match ratio of about l to 1,which will improve our competitiveness substantially.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This request is for the BOCC to approve and sign a letter in support of the county's 2019-2021 Historic Courthouse
Grant Program grant application. There is no fiscal impact.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the BOCC approve the letter of support and authorize the Board Chair to sign on behalf of the Board.
