ANALYSIS/STRATEGIC GOALS/PRO'S and CON'S: A vacancy on the NPC MRC was advertised in the The Leader on May 9,2018.Mr. Petrillo expressed interest by the May 23rd deadline. He was the only applicant and isn't available to begin serving until fall. The two currently serving Jefferson County citizen representatives,Jill Silver and Chiggers Stokes,as well as Water Quality manager Mike Dawson and NPC MRC coordinator Tami Pokorny interviewed Mr. Petrillo on July 2nd in a conference call. Mr.Petrillo has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and a M.S. in Ocean Engineering.From 1982-2006 he worked as a consulting ocean engineer in private industry and was involved with hydrodynamic modeling, physical oceanography, seabed mapping, integrated navigation systems as well as submarine power and fiber cable installation.He hiked the fifty miles of coastal wilderness in Olympic National Park in 2011.In spring of 2013, inspired by his trip,he reached out to the NPC MRC with a draft plan for removing remote marine debris.Mr. Petrillo volunteered for the Jefferson County MRC for ten years and on the Northwest Straits Commission for two. He is a life-long supporter of environmental initiatives. The interview committee is unanimous in recommending him for appointment to the Jefferson County Citizen Representative seat,vacated by Ed Ansorg,to represent Economic/Scientific Groups Community Health Environmental Health Developmental Disabilities Water Quality 360-385-9400 360-385-9444 360-385-9401 (f) Always working for a safer and healthier community (f)360-379-4487 FISCAL IMPACT/COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS: There is no fiscal impact to the county's General Fund for appointing Mr. Petrillo to serve on the NPC MRC in a volunteer capacity. RECOMMENDATION: Appoint Mr. Petrillo to serve a full 2-year term on the North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee as a Jefferson County Citizen Representative for Economic/Scientific Groups.
