Subject: Planning Commission District 3 appointment
STATEMENT OF ISSUE
The nine -member Jefferson County Planning Commission has one position that was vacated by
Mr. Tom Giske, who represented District 3 and was re -appointed to a term expiring on March
17, 2022. Announcements regarding this vacant Planning Commission position have been
posted and published in print as well as digital media. Two applications for this position were
received. The Department is recommending the appointment of Ms. Chris Llewellyn.
ANALYSIS
The Board of County Commissioners established a "Planning Agency" comprised of DCD and
the Planning Commission. Pursuant to the originating action (Resolution #54-97), the Planning
Commission assists DCD in carrying out its duties by engaging the public in the preparation and
review of comprehensive plans and development regulations. Recommendations made by the
Planning Commission are forwarded to the Board on matters before the Board.
This position was advertised in the newspaper of record, Port Townsend Leader as well as
posted on the Jefferson County website and shared with area community bulletin boards and
list -serves.
FISCAL IMPACT/COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS
There is no fiscal impact to the County's General Fund for appointing a member to serve on the
Planning Commission.
RECOMMENDATION
Appoint Ms. Chris Llewellyn to serve as the District 3 representative on the Planning
Commission to a term that expires on March 17, 2022.
