TRUST FUND AND FUND 630-ANIMAL }
SERVICES OPERATIONS AND }
MAINTENANCE TRUST FUND }
WHEREAS, on April 23, 2001 the Board of County Commissioners, through Resolution 44-01, created
an Animal Services Donation Trust Fund(Fund 629); and
WHEREAS, this fund was established to ensure that donations made to care for animals were used for
that and no other purpose; and
WHEREAS, on February 6, 2006 the Board of County Commissioners, through Resolution 06-06,
created an Animal Services Operations and Maintenance Donation Fund (Fund 630); and
WHEREAS, this fund was established to account for donations made to help pay for the operations and
maintenance of Animal Services' programs and infrastructure and to pay for supplies and utilities; and
WHEREAS, on April 16, 2012 the County entered into a contractual relationship with the Humane
Society of Jefferson County to assume responsibility for operating the animal shelter; and
WHEREAS, the need for maintaining these funds no longer exists.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners hereby
directs the Jefferson County Auditor to inactivate Fund 629-Animal Services Donation Trust Fund and Fund
630-Animal Services Operations and Maintenance Trust Fund; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners hereby directs the
Jefferson County Treasurer to move all residual funds into the General Fund; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolutions 44-01 and 06-06 are hereby rescinded.

RE: Request for Board of County Commissioners approval to inactivate Fund 629—
Animal Services Donation Trust Account and Fund 630-Animal Services O&M
Donation Fund.
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
On April 23,2001,the Board of County Commissioners,through Resolution 44-01,created an Animal Services
Donation Trust Fund(Fund 629).This fund was established to ensure that donations made to care for animals were
used for that and no other purpose. On February 6,2006,the Board of County Commissioners,through Resolution
06-06,created an Animal Services Operations and Maintenance Donation Fund.This fund was established to
account for donations made to help pay for the operations and maintenance of Animal Services'programs and
infrastructure and to pay for supplies and utilities.The Jefferson County Auditor believes both of these funds should
be inactivated.
ANALYSIS:
The County created these funds when it operated the animal shelter and received donations for various purposes.On
April 16,2012,the County entered into a contractual relationship with the Humane Society of Jefferson County to
assume responsibility for operating the animal shelter. When that happened the need to maintain these two donation
funds disappeared.
Each of the two funds has a small fund balance and neither has had any financial activity since 2012.As a chart of
accounts housekeeping matter the Auditor would like to inactivate both funds and transfer residual funds totaling
approximately$650 into the General Fund.
The attached resolution directs the Jefferson County Auditor to inactivate the Animal Services Donation Trust Fund
—Fund 629 and the Animal Services Operations and Maintenance Donation Fund—Fund 630 and directs the
Treasurer to transfer residual funds into the General Fund.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Each of these funds has a small residual fund balance to be transferred into the General Fund.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Board of County Commissioners approve this request and the attached proposed resolution.
