HomeMy WebLinkAbout011419_cabs01 Department of Public Works 0 County Administrator's Briefing Jefferson County Board of Commissioners Agenda Request To: Board of Commissioners Philip Morley, County Administrator From: Monte Reinders, P.E., Public Works Director/County Engineer Agenda Date: January 14, 2019 (1:30 p.m.) Subject: Brief Board on Solid Waste Transport and Disposal Services Contract Statement of Issue: The Board issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) on August 20th, 2018 for Solid Waste Transport and Disposal Services. The Solid Waste Manager and Public Works Director will brief the Board on the status of contract negotiations in preparation for Board execution of the contract in late January or early February. Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's &t Con's: Two firms provided proposals to the County for haul and disposal of approximately 20,000 tons of solid waste per year from the County's transfer station. County staff, with assistance from legal counsel, have entered into negotiations with the preferred contractor, Republic Services, and are finalizing the contract terms. Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis: Estimated cost per year for the first year of the contract, assuming 20,000 tons, is $1,364,200. The initial contract term is 5 years with the potential for 3-year extensions. Costs are essentially the same as what the County currently pays under the existing contract which has been in place for the last 20 years. Recommendation: No Board action is required.
