PROCLAMATION
Of
THANKS & APPRECIATION
Whereas, on behalf of the citizens we represent,Jefferson County owns approximately 400 miles of County
Roads in Jefferson County,which are operated and maintained for the traveling public by the Department of
Public Works Road Division and its dedicated Road Crew,with support by the County Shop and its crew; and
Whereas, beginning February 3 through February 14 2019, a series of extreme winter storm systems
repeatedly blasted the region with large accumulations of snow and freezing temperatures,followed by
melting and re-freezing, causing schools and businesses throughout Jefferson County to close or curtain
operations; and,
Whereas,the Road Division and County Shop,have exercised a series of strategic improvements to the road
equipment and operations in the past two years, and in advance of the February storm systems
demonstrated excellent preparatory planning for staging materials, equipment and crew schedules; and
Whereas,the Road Crews applied deicers on key arterials before snow began accumulating, and working 12-
hour shifts around the clock, and working overtime,the crews ran continuous snow removal throughout the
series of storms, and County Shop staff partnered to maintain and fix equipment that kept operations
running throughout;
Now Therefore,the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners do herby proclaim our Thanks and
Appreciation to the Road Division staff and the County Shop staff for their dedication to keeping the public
safe and keeping roads open to the traveling public in the face of extreme winter storms that paralyzed many
neighboring jurisdictions; and encourage all residents, businesses and visitors of Jefferson County to join us in
extending our gratitude to these extraordinary employees for their dedication to serving the public.
