SUMMARY
Performs duties associated with data entry, office administration, and general clerical work. Greets
customers, schedules appointments, gives information to callers, and otherwise relieves officials of
clerical work and minor administrative and business detail by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
,..... Greets public, ascertains nature of business, and staff most able to assist, may obtain routine information
and may provide standard information from published records or specified directories.
Enters data assigned by Supervisor into appropriate software system. Types notifications, reports
memos, form letters and other necessary correspondence. May compile simple reports from such
records.
Indexes and files routine correspondence, reports and other records and materials according to a
prescribed breakdown.
Makes copies of correspondence or other printed matter as instructed.
Prepares outgoing mail. Opens, reads and routes incoming mail.
Prepares office supply inventory and office supply orders on a regular basis.

.r-- EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related
experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability
to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MA THEMA TICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions,
percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and
geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral,
or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in
standardized situations.
CERTIFICA TES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Washington State Driver's License

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate complex or controversial issues or regulations to the staff and the public.
Knowledge of standard office equipment including a multiline phone system, fax machine, postage meter
and copier.
Ability to use a personal computer and software programs. Knowledge of DOS, MS Word, MS Excel
desirable.
Knowledge of State laws, County regulations and policies, and the ability to learn and understand laws,
policies and procedures.
Ability to remain calm and productive in a busy office under stressful conditions.
Skill in dealing with a variety of people in a pleasant manner, to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with officials, contractors, and the general public.
Ability to work as part of a team and to creatively problem solve with others.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, and multiple interruptions on an ongoing basis.
Ability to grasp new techniques and deal with rapid changes in events.
