Follows the guidelines, protocols, and procedures of the agency. conducts studies, prepares reports and advised administrators on feasibility, cost effectiveness, and regulatory conformance of proposals for special projects or ongoing programs in health care by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. ,- Organizes and conducts clinics as assigned. May direct and instruct other Public Health staff. Educates and instructs individuals and groups of all ages in health promotion activities, including but no limited to immunization, family planning, communicable diseases, hygiene, sexually transmitted disease, tuberculosis, perinatal care of mother and newborns. Participates on an interdisciplinary team on behalf of patients. Refers patients to other appropriate community agencies and facilitates the linkage process. Performs case finding activities for communicable diseases or health conditions with appropriate followup treatment. Provides case management. Provides information and referral for the staff to community resources. Documents home visits and all patient related activities on appropriate forms and provides related statistical data to the Director of Nursing. Keeps confidential patient records, statistical records and CVR data. Responsible for continuing education via workshops, current literature and resources in order to act as a community resource. Attends conferences, professional seminars and regular staff meetings as required for professional development. - Orients new employees and performs other tasks and projects as assigned. Assists in coordinating and evaluating nursing programs as assigned. Page 1 ~ Consults with administrators or planning councils to discuss overall intent of programs or projects, and determines broad guidelines for studies. Reviews and evaluates materials provided with proposals such as budget or staffing estimates to determine additional data requirements. Conducts field investigations, economic or public opinion surveys, demographic studies, or other research to gather required information. Organizes data from all sources. Evaluates information to determine feasibility of proposals or to identify factors requiring amendment. Develops alternate plans for program or project, incorporating recommendations for review of officials. Maintains collection of socioeconomic, environmental, and regulatory data related to agency functions, for use by planning and administrative personnel in government and private sectors. Carries out other Health Department activities as requested or essential to program/community functioning. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Public Health Nursing Certification from an NLN accredited program and/or a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, clients, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and ratios. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. ",..... CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Washington State Registered Nurse license or other health professional license and two (2) years of Page 2 experience in licensed discipline. ,..... Valid Washington State Driver's License at time of hire and throughout employment. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to establish rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles in a non-judgmental and professional manner, including knowledge and ability to discuss explicit sexual behaviors and drug use practices. Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with staff, community physicians and a variety of groups and agencies. CAREER LADDER POSITION This position is the entry level position in a career ladder for Public Health Nurses. The next position is a PHNII.
