DRAFT MINUTES
The February 13, 2019 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition was held at the Chimacum
High School Library from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Report on upcoming activities; Decisions: re activity details.
Introduce new work: Strategic plan and action plan for FY2019-2020.
Facilitators for this meeting: Denise Banker
In attendance: Kris Becker, Chris Hoffman-Hill, Greg Brotherton, Ciela Meyer, Brian MacKenzie,
Sarah Rogers, Joe Nole, Tanya Barnett, Lindsay Scalf (coordinator of Port Townsend School
District CPWI coalition).
Time/Facilitator Activity
3:30 Denise/All Called meeting to order. Denise introduced Lindsay and Joe. All
introduced ourselves to new attendees.
3:35 Denise Approved agenda: Greg moved, Ciela seconded. Motion carried.
Approved minutes: Greg moved, Brian seconded. Motion carried.
3:36 Denise Report and Decisions:
~School personnel training re: vaping by Aarti Patel Feb. 27, 2:30-5 pm,
in CHS library. Other youth-serving professionals may be invited.
~Youth training re: vaping by Ciela, Denise, Lindsay, and Karen
Obermeyer, March 6, full day health fair format for entire student body.
Discussion re: prevalence and concerns of vaping locally and
nationwide.
~CSD funding for Linda Chamberlain training not available; will cover
with coalition funds. Training will take place during March 13 CSD
teacher in-service from 1-3 pm. Community members who attend the
film screening will be invited. Discussion re: informing leadership of other
school districts. No regular coalition meeting this day.
~Film screening Feb. 26 at WSU extension, 1-5 pm. Venue seats 49; 12
rsvps so far. Discussion re marketing and promotion. Reminder to follow
up with your contacts and encourage them to attend.
~Life Skills training in high school health classes begins March 26 taught
by Denise for 10 weeks. Discussion re: Life Skills curriculum.
~Guiding Good Choices parent class is in session now, with 5 families
enrolled. Discussion re: Guiding Good Choices curriculum.

Report and Decisions (continued):
~Drug Take Back is scheduled for April 27 in Port Townsend,
coordinated by Lindsay, and in Port Hadlock, coordinated by Denise.
4:20 Denise New Work:
~Need to schedule the drug impairment training for professional
educators to be completed before June 30.
~Need to complete annual review and update of Coalition strategic plan.
