HomeMy WebLinkAboutNetwork Technician IV JEFFERSON COUNTY Job Description Job Title: Network Technician IV Department: Central Services Reports To: Central Services Director FLSA Exempt: No HIPAA: Level 3 Union: Teamsters BBP: No Salary Level: IS IV Location: Courthouse / Approved By: Human Resources Manager '6( Approved Date: February 2019 SUMMARY Provides functional and technical support including network maintenance and troubleshooting,routine maintenance on County computer hardware/software/peripherals,telephone and voice mail system by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Responsible to assist the Network Administrator by performing the following duties and to be responsible for these duties in the absence of the Network Administrator and during emergencies as requested or required: • Maintain the design and architecture of the network. • Maintain all network components, including but not limited to,file servers, routers, bridges, switches,cabling, etc. • Troubleshoot network problems. • Analyze network monitoring information to determine "health" of network. • Maintain network security and firewall systems, including administration of user accounts. Plans,develops, and administers telephone policies, procedures,and systems using the most effective technology affordable. Troubleshoots and resolves PC hardware and software problems that are presented by customers. Installs, configures, and maintains computer hardware, software,and network communications equipment including, but not limited to Personal Computers(PCs),printers, file servers, system software, routers, switches, firewalls and application software. May assist in developing,testing and implementation of software programs and hardware solutions for use in the production environment. Provides limited application software support for all software programs supported by Information Services; support includes technical administration of application systems security functions, installation of software releases from vendors, limited troubleshooting of vendor software problems, and coordination with County departments and vendors for technical matters. Jefferson County Job Description: Central Services-Network Technician IV Page 2 of 4 Performs database management and maintenance procedures with guidance from senior staff. Provides training to customers in the use of computer hardware and software systems. Maintains data backup/recovery systems. Coordinates all telephone system needs including replacement of defective equipment, additional equipment,and voice mail changes. Maintains inventory of all telecommunications system equipment for supported systems. Maintains and distributes county telephone directory. Provides training to customers regarding their use of telephones and voice mail systems. Assists other staff members with complex projects. Maintains the fixed asset records, and various data backup systems for Information Services.. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree(BA or BS)from a four year college or university in computer science or an appropriate field of study and four(4)years related experience with personal computers,telephone systems, server and network operating systems; or, an Associates agree(AA)in an appropriate field of study and six(6)years of related experience. Technical or postgraduate education that is directly related may be substituted for up to two(2)years of experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as ordinances, statutes, software documentation, and various computer programming languages. Ability to analyze information and write reports for consumption by both technical and non-technical persons. MATHMETICAL SKILLS Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to utilize variables in various programming languages to perform calculations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications,Active Directory, Windows&Linux operating systems and database software ie; SQL or Access. OTHER KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS &ABILITIES Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently often with frequent interruptions. Ability to perform complex, multi-step processing of data to provide final data products to customers. Knowledge of and experience with major PC and network operating systems; PC databases and software; and networking and communication hardware, firmware, and operating software systems. Proven technical skill in the use of at least one programming language for current generation office equipment.Knowledge of software design and the use of scripting, compiled, and interpreted languages. Knowledge of telephone and telecommunications hardware,firmware, and operating software systems. Extensive knowledge of peripherals including, but not limited to printers,copiers, scanners,and cameras. CERTIFICATES,LICENSES,REGISTRATIONS Valid Washington State Driver's License with a driving record free of serious or frequent violations. Must pass a thorough background investigation which includes being fingerprinted.
