Service Officer to Represent VFW Post #7014: Delmer Sayer agreed to talk to Dick Wiltse of Post 7014 about the need for their continued participation in the Service Officers Association. If the Service Officer position at the Post is vacant, the Commander needs to be willing to participate. DD214 Processing: Lee Morgan noted that in order to get a copy of a DD214 from the Veterans' Administration, a Veteran may have to wait as long as 6 months to 2 years. He stated that a woman he is helping applied for a funeral benefit 9 months ago and didn't have a DD214 and she is still waiting for it. He feels that a VA Hospital Card is also proof of service if a DD214 is not available. Benefits for Eye Glasses and Dental Work: There was a discussion about the problem of allowing this type of benefit without the Service Officers having to go with the Veteran to the Eye Doctor or Dentist. It is best to recommend that Veterans go to the VA Hospital as a first alternative. Lee Morgan mentioned that if someone has a hearing loss that is related to a job injury, they can make a Labor & Industries claim. MEETING ADJOURNED
