MEETING MINUTES
May 12, 2010
Service Officers present: Delmer Sayer, VFW 7498; Dick Wiltse, VFW 7498; Robert "Alex" Alexander, VFW
3213; Bud Schindler, VFW 10706; and John Braasch, Service Officer at Large. Others present: Leslie Locke,
Deputy Clerk for the SOA.
Chair Delmer Sayer called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the July 14, 2009 meeting were approved by unanimous vote.
Officers for 2010: Chair Sayer opened the nominations for 2010 Officers and the following members were
nominated: Delmer Sayer - Chairman; Dick Wiltse - Vice -Chairman; and Robert Alexander -
Secretary/Treasurer. Member Wiltse moved to approve the nominations. Member Braasch seconded the
motion which carried by a unanimous vote. The following Service Officers Association (SOA) members
will serve as Executive Board Officers for 2010:
Chair: Delmer Sayer
Vice -Chair: Dick Wiltse
Secretary/Treasurer: Robert "Alex" Alexander
Appointment of Service Officer -at -Large, May 2010-2011: Member Wiltse moved to appoint John
Braasch as Service Officer -at -Large. Member Schindler seconded the motion which carried by a
unanimous vote.
Jefferson County Stand Down 2010: Member Braasch handed out a flyer (see attached) for the Voices for
Veterans' Stand Down that was held on Thursday, May 6 in Forks. He listed all the service providers who
participated in the event and how many veterans they helped. He reported that there was a 33% increase from
last year in attendance at the Stand Down.
Member Braasch informed the Committee that the Port Townsend Stand Down is scheduled for July 26, 2010 at
the Elk's Lodge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Discussion re: Revisions to Application: Chair Sayer reviewed possible changes to the Veterans'
Assistance Fund Application. He suggested removing the dollar amount being requested since the
amount is determined by the Service Officers. He also suggested removing the rank and service branch
because that information is listed on the Veteran's DD214 which is attached to the application. He will
work with the Clerk for the SOA, Erin Lundgren to prepare a new application for use by the SOA.
Additional Business.• The Committee concurred to hold the next SOA meeting prior to submission of the 2011
preliminary budget in August, 2010. Chair Sayer would like to request that the County Commissioners raise
the tax levy to an amount that will meet their future needs.
