RE: Briefing on 2019 Rhododendron Festival Carnival Siting
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: County Commissioners will hear an update on the 2019 Rhody
Carnival, its use of Memorial Field, weather and conditions permitting, and the Rhododendron
Festival Association's effort to secure a backup location if weather and field conditions require
that use of Memorial Field for heavy trucks and carnival equipment must be cancelled..
ANALYSIS: This briefing updates a prior briefing the Rhododendron Festival Association and
Mayor Deborah Stinson gave to the County Commissioners on April 15.
FISCAL IMPACT: None from the briefing. Possible options for locating the Carnival might
have an impact on County expenditures.
RECOMMENDATION: Hold the briefing, and provide feedback to staff and to the
Rhododendron Festival Association..
