NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING AND PUBLIC COMMENTS
ON DRAFTED REVISIONS TO THE FLOOD DAMAGE PREVENTIVE ORDINANCE
Notice is hereby given that pursuant to RCW 36.18.040(3) and RCW 36.32.120(7), a public
hearing will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the County Commissioners
Chambers of the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson Street, Port Townsend, WA for the
purpose of taking oral and written testimony regarding an Ordinance which would, if enacted,
repeal the existing Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance (as codified in Chapter 15.15 JCC) and
replace with an updated Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance. The updated ordinance requires
the county to use an updated Flood Insurance Survey for Jefferson County and revised Flood
Insurance Rate Maps beginning on June 7, 2019. In addition to the May 13, 2019 Public Hearing,
written testimony may also be submitted any time beginning May 1, 2019 and must be received
by the County no later than the close of the public hearing, addressed to the BoCC at P.O. Box
1220, Port Townsend, WA 98368 or by email at jeffbocc@co.jefferson.wa.us unless extended by
the Board of County Commissioners.
The proposed revisions to the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance include the following sections
of Chapter 15.15 JCC:
15.15.010 Statutory authorization – Revised
15.15.aaa Severability - New
15.15.bbb General exemptions - New
15.15.020 Findings of fact – Revised
15.15.030 Statement of purpose – Revised
15.15.040 Methods of reducing flood losses – Unchanged
15.15.050 Definitions - Revised
15.15.060 General provisions - Revised
15.15.070 Administration - Revised
15.15.080 Provisions for flood hazard reductions -Revised.
