STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
PROCLAMATION re: Declaring June 2019 as Pride Month
ANALYSIS:
Emelia De Souza, President: Jefferson County Pride requested Jefferson County make a
Proclamation to declare June as Pride Month. Jefferson County's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and
Queer community continues to make significant contributions to the fabric, stability and well-being of our
community. The request is also for a Commissioners to present the Jefferson County Proclamations at the
Pride Rally - Pride in the Park 2019, July 13th in Port Townsend and many organizations and community
groups in Jefferson County will host celebrations and educational events.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,Jefferson County, Washington's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer,
Intersex and Asexual community continues to make significant contributions to the fabric,
stability and well-being of our community; and
WHEREAS, Jefferson County has a history of inclusiveness and non-discrimination; and
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners passed a Human Rights
Proclamation on February 6, 2017 declaring our commitment to protecting the inalienable
human rights, dignity and equality of all individuals,regardless of age, race,national origin,
immigration and citizenship status, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status,
religion, creed or ability; and
WHEREAS,2019 marks the 50`h year of the Stonewall rebellion and the beginning of the Gay
Rights movement and,
WHEREAS,the 2019 Pride Celebration offers the opportunity to recommit to the struggle for
civil rights for all people and to value the humanity and dignity of all residents and visitors of
Port Townsend: and
WHEREAS,the month of June 2019 marks the annual celebration of Pride and many
organizations and community groups in Jefferson County and around the world will host
celebrations and educational events;
Now,Therefore,the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners does hereby proclaim
June 2019 to be
Pride Month
In Jefferson County, and encourage all residents and visitors to join in celebrating the spirit and
dedication of this vibrant community and to participant in the many activities of Pride Month
that will take place throughout Jefferson County, and the Pride in the Park 2019 festival on July
13, 2019.
