Due to a delay in developing an ECOLOGY approved QAPP and complexity of said QAPP, Jefferson County Public Health will need more time to develop the Lake Cyanobacteria Management Plan. Anderson Lake has produced some of the highest concentrations of the neurotoxin anatoxin -a in the world. The goal of this project is to benefit the public by contributing to understanding the sources of nutrients in Anderson Lake that contribute to dangerously high concentrations of the nerve toxin anatoxin -a. By involving stakeholders in a public process to examine lake management options a diverse audience will be engaged. With greater understanding of nutrient dynamics underlying toxic cyanobacteria populations, lake managers and local health jurisdictions will have a plan on which to base management decisions. This project will achieve the steps needed to allow future implementation of algae control methods designed to reduce the extent and severity of toxic algae blooms.
