Jefferson County Board of Commissioners (jeffbocc@co.jefferson.wa.us) Jefferson County Planning Commission (plancomm@co.jefferson.wa.us) re: ZON18-00036 Please consider this seriously. Prior to living in Jefferson County we lived in a community surrounded by National Forest. For some time there were sites unofficially used for target shooting. Also unofficially, on an irregular basis, volunteers would clean the sites of trash and left behind shooting materials (brass, shotgun cartridges, etc.). Federal officials determined the sites were not to be used any longer and fenced them off. Thereafter we, who loved hiking and generally using the forest for recreation, had to encounter damage to many parts of this same area. This damage was not easily remedied by anyone and the forest suffered as a result. With the amount of land in Jefferson County that would become used for both responsible and “less than responsible” shooting I urge the Planning Commission and Board of Jefferson County Supervisors to provide for shooting sites that are, presently and in the future, responsibly operated and maintained. And, in addition, to not create unrealistic financial burdens upon those operating and maintaining said sites. This to include, at least, the Jefferson County Sportsmens Association.
