Ludlow. It appears I'm speaking to the Tarboo Coalition de -facto legal team; that
is if the body language and elbow rubbing is any indication of which way people
lean.
Let's cut to the chase. This isn't about noise levels. It's about the fact that the
noise comes from firearms. Just coming out and admitting that makes the
complainer look like a religious zealot and Lord knows, we have enough of those.
In the beginning I predicted county officials would drag the Sportsman's
Association into the fray to draw attention away from the fact that the real target
was Joe D'Amico. However I still stand by my position that some of them saw this
as a chance for a twofer. Here it is in a nutshell. The old ordinance did not drive a
big enough stake through D'Amico's heart. The Tarboo guys know somebody who
knows somebody. They get the old ordinance invalidated, push the reset button
and get you as hapless fools or willing servants, whichever is the case, to try to
put one together that has the pieces in it that they couldn't get in the first time.
Sound about right? But now you're stuck. Your Tarboo friends have their
expectations of you. Only problem is, you do what they want and you probably
win D'Amico's lawsuit for him. Your bosses will not like that. You word it like
Tarboo wants and no range can get over those hurdles including the one that's
operated for over fifty years. The hundreds of people who use the range also have
certain expectations. You don't get this right I expect the number disappointed in
you to be far greater than the ones you're trying to please. I bet it didn't seem
this complicated when the Tarboo people were whispering in your ear.
Now usually I'm pretty accurate in my predictions. In fact, so far only one has
proved wrong. I seriously misjudged the role a free press would play in
connecting the dots. I figured that, in spite of the anti -gun position of the local
editor, the truth would be just too tempting to ignore. I blew that one. I know
what, I'll blame that one my high school civics teacher.
Let me wrap this up. I shoot trap on Wednesdays and Sundays except for the last
Sunday of the month. I would like it very much if you people would just leave me
alone.
