HomeMy WebLinkAbout38 HearonTRILLIUM r\(IO ODS November 5, 2019 Dear Jefferson County Planning Commissioners. JEFFERSON COUNTY DCD I want to thank all of you for the tremendous work all of you do on behalf of Jefferson County citizens. You do an excellent job of listening to our concerns and spend an inordinate amount of volunteer time assimilating what you hear and making sure County officials are aware of the repercussions of its land use decisions as Jefferson County continues to grow. I sincerely hope that the County, particularly the elected Commissioners, pay better attention to your suggestions and recommendations on how to create a gun range ordinance that best meets the needs of all of us. It was enormously discouraging to learn that virtually all your good work had been passed over the last time the County attempted and failed to create a gun range ordinance that was legally sound. Thank you listening to us again as we express how we, as private landowners, feel about the safest and most effective way to incorporate licensed gun ranges into our community. I believe your previous recommendation that all gun ranges have a 500 -yard setback from all shorelines and wetlands in an absolute imperative in any gun range ordinance. Without this regulation, the chance of lead and copper polluting our waterways rise immeasurably. Without this regulation, public recreation areas long enjoyed by non -shooters become unsafe and undesirable. And let us not forget the safety of wildlife who congregate near water; no gun range operation can guarantee the accuracy of the civilian shooters who use its facilities. I have the utmost faith in your integrity as you gather information and formulate your recommendations to the County in the weeks ahead. Once again, thank you for the incredible work that you do on behalf of the rest of us. Sincerely, Leigh Hearon TRILLIUM WOODS FARM, 7360 Center Rd, Quilcene, WA 98376 • (360) 732-0732 trilliunwoodsfani.i:r.,ii.,:l_:• i.ii Trillium WoodsFarin.cou1
