Exercise caution when opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders. Hello Planning Commissioners, I am forwarding a revised message I sent to the BoCC in December of 2018... This tactic of kicking the can down the road by thinking the SEPA or CUP or a Hearing Examiner process will solve all our problems strikes me as totally insufficient. We must provide clear guardrails in the county code which represent the will of the residents. THAT is what the Hearings Examiner and DCD will use to determine if a permit will be issued. What we really need is a clear and decisive decision by our Elected Commissioners which states that this kind of land use does not belong near residents or critical areas in our county, not a chance for a misinterpretation by an unelected individual. Please provide the guardrails that a Hearing Examiner requires to make the correct decision for the people of Jefferson County, disallow such land use in areas where it will negatively impact residents and critical areas. This is the will of the people. Failure to clearly determine that the residents do not want this land use in their area makes us look like easy targets for future bullies. Never leave it to the referee! Make the answer clear and unambiguous. Be the voice of the people. I am not opposed to outdoor shooting facilities. Quite the contrary, I see it as a necessary service. However, I do not see it as reasonable to locate one where it will impact residents or critical areas. If such a facility belongs in Jefferson County, it must be located very remotely so as to avoid impacts. The burden of finding such a site is the responsibility of the developer. The burden of just dealing with the poor choice of the developer must not be foisted upon the neighbors or community in which the developer mistakenly attempts to impose such a site. Nobody opposes indoor shooting facilities and nobody would complain about an outdoor shooting facility which did not impact residents or critical areas. The problem is in a bully attempting to ram the poor site location down the throats of the neighbors in an unsuitable location for his intended development. The solution is obvious to me... find a suitable location or forget about this stupid idea.
