HomeMy WebLinkAbout20190326_PT ETC Meeting MinutesPort Townsend Empowered Teens Coalition Meeting Agenda March 26th 3:00-4:00pm Port Townsend High School Library Purpose of meeting:  Updates from different sectors  Reviewing Strategic Plan  Establishing Goals and Strategies for the Action Plan Facilitator for this meeting: Lindsay Scalf Attendees: Julie Russell, Al Scalf, Sierra Ruegg, Dana Marklund, Denise Banker Time Activity 3:00 Call meeting to order Approve agenda 3:05 Discuss monthly meeting time- 4th Tuesday of every month or other options 4th Tuesday at 3pm works for all members present and was the most voted on option from the Doodle poll. 3:10 Updates from different sectors SAP Position at Blue Heron has a candidate, waiting for confirmation to hear if they are hired. Discussed norms around smoking and vaping at PTHS, and ideal messaging strategies to communicate risk of vaping products to teens. 3:15 Lindsay presented data from the Assessment, Coalition discussed priority risk and protective factors Risk factors: Community Disorganization, Availability of Substances, Community Norms, Favorable Attitudes, Perception of peer use, Low perception of harm Protective Factors: Community Connectedness, Opportunities for prosocial involvement Coalition collaborated on a brainstorm- refining Risk and Protective Factors into Goals for the Action Plan Goal 1: Increase understanding of the risks of harm of substance use among teens, parents, and community members. 1.1 Implement substance use education (alcohol, tobacco/vaping, marijuana, other drugs) at local schools 1.2 Develop communications about the health risks and increased potency of drugs with media and outreach strategies Goal 2: Increase awareness of prosocial activities for teens. 2.1 Strengthen knowledge of resources for prosocial opportunities for youth in Port Townsend 2.2 Promote communications of prosocial opportunities through media and grassroots outreach Goal 3: Decrease perceptions of community acceptance of substance use through norms and enforcement. 3.1 Communicate to youth and parents about underage substance use laws and the risks of use acceptance Goal 4: Decrease the risk of availability of substances, including perceived availability among teens 4.1 Increase communication with the public and local policy makers about social hosting, retail options, and monitoring substance marketing strategies Goal 5: Reduce community disorganization by increasing turnout in local activities 5.1 Develop resource awareness among educators, students, parents, and community members 3:55 Workgroup for finishing Action plan to meet on Wednesday March 27th  Tasks include: selecting programs for each goal and completing budget  Lindsay will work on completing the Action Plan and editing the rest of the Strategic Plan for DBHR’s April 1 deadline. 4:00 Close meeting
